Treat your lumbar spine with traditional Chinese medicine to help you recover as soon as possible

Lumbar disc herniation is a very common disease in orthopedics. The typical symptom is low back pain. If it radiates to the lower limbs, leg pain will occur, seriously affecting normal life. The sooner the treatment is received, the better the recovery will be. Traditional Chinese medicine massage, acupuncture, and traction methods all have good treatment effects.

1. Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation with Traditional Chinese Medicine

1. Pressing method: Use the palm side (finger pads) of both thumbs to massage from the patient's upper back along the second meridian of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian on both sides of the spine, from top to bottom to the lumbar sacral area, for 3 consecutive times. Then the operator crosses his hands, with the right hand on top and the left hand on the bottom, and uses the palms to press down from the patient's first thoracic vertebra along the spinous process (i.e., the Governor Vessel) to the lumbar sacral region, with the left hand applying slight force toward the foot while pressing, for three consecutive times.

2. Rolling technique: Use the back of your hand or the protruding part of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the back of your hand to roll along the two meridians of the patient's Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian from top to bottom. Apply a little force when you reach the lumbar sacral area, roll the affected side to the heel, and repeat 3 times.

3. Traction method: The patient lies prone on the bed. The operator stands at the side of the patient's feet and holds his ankles with both hands. The patient holds the head of the bed with both hands, and the patient is stretched at an angle of about 45 degrees to the bed surface for about 1 minute, 3 times in a row.

Second, auxiliary treatment methods

1. Pinch the Achilles tendon: The Achilles tendon is commonly known as the lazy tendon, located at the upper back of the heel. Lying on the bed, use the middle sections of the thumbs and index fingers of both hands to pinch the Achilles tendons on both sides with a little force. Pinch 20 to 30 times as much as you can tolerate.

2. Shake your legs: When standing, use the healthy leg to hold the weight, relax the affected side, press your palms on the back of the thigh and shake the muscles left and right for 1 to 2 minutes, then sit down, bend your knees slightly, press your palms on the back of the calf, and shake the muscles left and right for 1 to 2 minutes. The shaking should be continuous, smooth and natural.

3. Stretching: Lie on the bed, hold the head of the bed with both hands, and have one or two family members hold the patient's ankles and pull downwards. When the patient with lumbar disc herniation feels the pain relieved or disappears, maintain this pulling force until the pain is exhausted. Repeat 5 to 10 times.

4. Acupoint: The first acupoint is at the midpoint of the line connecting the ischial tuberosity (the tip of the bone that can be felt in the center of the gluteal groove) and the greater trochanter of the femur (the protruding bone on the outside of the hip bone). The second acupoint is in the center of the back of the thigh. The third acupoint is in the center of the calf. The fourth is behind the medial malleolus. Kneel on the bed and press the acupoints with your middle finger or thumb. It is best to feel a sore, numb and swollen feeling. Press each acupoint for 1 minute.

5. Push the calf: If the back of the calf is numb and painful, push the calf; if the outside of the calf is numb and painful, push the calf near the little toe. The method is to sit on a stool, use the base of your palm or the thenar to maintain pressure and push down from top to bottom. You can apply some "massage lotion" or use a layer of soft cloth, and push 20 to 30 times.
