Can pharyngitis be contagious to babies?

Pharyngitis is not contagious so there is no need to worry about your baby. There are many reasons why babies suffer from pharyngitis, including living habits and environmental factors. It is very uncomfortable for babies to suffer from pharyngitis, so you must take more precautions in daily life, have a regular life, give your baby more water to drink, eat more fruits, etc.

Pathological etiology

1. Lifestyle factors

Many children do not have very good living habits. For example, they do not wash their hands frequently, pick their noses frequently, do not brush their teeth before going to bed at night, etc. Experts say that these are incorrect. Parents should not spoil their children, but should urge them to develop good behavioral habits, which will not only be beneficial to their future life, but also to their health.

2. Environmental factors

Children in cities have to breathe in too much exhaust fumes, pollution, etc. Therefore, when at home or at school, you must ensure that the air in the child's room is fresh. If the air conditioner is turned on, you need to open the window regularly to replace the fresh air. Experts recommend that children should wear masks when going out in weather such as heavy fog.

3. Other disease factors

The child suffers from other adjacent organ diseases, such as rhinitis and otitis media, and the parents do not pay much attention to it at this time, which induces pediatric pharyngitis.

Similar to adults, it often occurs in combination with acute infectious diseases or upper respiratory tract infections. It is often secondary to respiratory tract infections such as rhinitis, pharyngitis, and upper respiratory tract infection. It can be a precursor disease to acute infectious diseases such as influenza, pneumonia, measles, chickenpox, whooping cough, scarlet fever, etc.

Symptoms

1. Hoarseness: Children with pharyngitis will have the symptom of hoarseness, which may even affect normal voice in severe cases.

2. Swelling and pain in the throat: Children usually feel pain and a foreign body sensation in the throat, which is more serious when speaking.

3. Excessive phlegm: Due to inflammation of the throat, the secretions in the throat increase, so the child always has coughs and excessive phlegm.

Disease hazards

1. Hoarseness or even permanent voice change

Most children with pharyngitis have the symptom of hoarseness. Some parents think that it is just due to their children's poor immunity and frequent colds. If not treated in time, it may even cause the child's voice to change permanently.

2. Many complications

If children with pediatric pharyngitis do not receive timely treatment, they may develop rhinitis, otitis media and other adjacent organ diseases, creating a vicious cycle.

Treatment principles

1. Perform symptomatic treatment, promote bowel movements, and drink more boiled water.

2. Those with fever should use antibiotics (penicillin, cefotaxime), sulfonamides and antiviral drugs (such as morphine, amantadine, viroline, etc.).

3. For local treatment, you can gargle with 1:5000 furacilin solution or compound borax solution, dissolve dulefen, chlorhexidine, mint tablets or iodine tablets in your mouth, or inhale antibiotics and hormones by nebulization.

4. Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine: For those with severe aversion to cold, mild fever, no sweating and floating pulse, Mahuang Decoction can be taken orally. If the fever is severe and the aversion to cold is mild, Yinqiao Powder can be taken internally. Niuhuang Jiedu Pills, Jiedu Xiaoyan Pills, and Liushen Pills can also be taken internally. For local treatment, you can use Bingpengsan or Xileisan powder and blow it into the throat. Acupuncture at the cheek-cartilage, hegu, shaoshang points or mandibular angle blockade can relieve inflammation and has an especially good analgesic effect.

Nasal irrigation

Mix 4.5 grams of pure salt without any additives with 500 ml of clean warm water. Fill the neti pot with water. Aim the spout of the neti pot at one nostril, tilt your head slightly to the other side (no more than 15°), and the water will flow out of the other nostril. Then blow both nostrils clean. Repeat the same action on the other nostril until the nasal cavity is completely clean. For acute pharyngitis caused by acute rhinitis, the above nasal washing method can be repeated several times a day until there is no excessive mucus in the nasal cavity.

Cryoablation minimally invasive technology

In the United States, the Jesse Plasma Cryogenic Ablation Comprehensive System is the fourth generation of physical therapy technology. With the cooperation of nasal endoscope, it uses the freezing point plasma cryogenic ablation system to instantly ablate diseased hyperplastic tissue. This technology can maintain the safety of local mucosal tissue structure and effectively reduce postoperative edema and pain. The ablation time is very short, about 20-30 minutes. The symptoms will be relieved after the operation and generally will not recur after the operation.

Prevention methods

1. Live a regular and controlled life, have a regular routine, go to bed at night and get up early to avoid catching a cold. Avoid cross drafts while sleeping.

2. Eat more fruits and dried fruits such as pears, raw radishes, and plums to enhance the maintenance function of the throat.

3. Increase outdoor activities, get more sunlight, strengthen your physical fitness and improve your disease resistance.

4. Maintain oral hygiene and develop the habit of brushing your teeth and rinsing your mouth in the morning, after meals and before going to bed.

5. Pay attention to climate changes, add or remove clothes in time to avoid cold or heat.

6. During the cold epidemic, try to reduce going out to prevent infection.
