Why do you snore and blow air when you sleep?

Snoring is commonly known as snoring. This disease occurs in some men and women, and sometimes some elderly people or children may also snore. There are many reasons for snoring. The first is to consider whether you are too tired during the day, and the second is to consider whether it is related to disease. Snoring will not affect yourself, but it will affect the people around you, especially your family. So, what is the specific reason for snoring while sleeping?

Causes of snoring

Why do people snore? Medical research has shown that any pronunciation requires the activity of various muscles in the oral cavity, nasal cavity, and pharyngeal cavity. Sound is only produced when the air flows through cavities of different shapes formed by various muscles. When people speak, they pronounce words by the airflow hitting the space between the vocal cords (two small muscles) in the throat. The lips, tongue, cheeks and jaw muscles then work together to form cavities of various shapes, so that different initials and finals are emitted when the sound passes through, thus forming language. When people sleep, the muscles of their lips, tongue, cheeks and jaw cannot be randomly combined to form various cavities, but there is always a large channel left - the throat (pharynx). If this channel becomes narrower and becomes a gap, the airflow will make a sound when passing through, which is snoring. Therefore, fat people, people with loose throat muscles, and people with sore throats are most likely to snore.

The effects of snoring

1. Affecting others’ sleep

People who snore do sleep more deeply and soundly. It is very worrying for an average person to sleep in the same room with a snorer at night: when the non-snorer lies down and has not fallen asleep yet, the roommate is already snoring loudly and has fallen asleep. This snoring will keep the non-snorer awake all night, and the person will feel groggy the next day and unable to work or study.

2. Snoring and disease

In the past, few people cared about whether snoring was harmful to themselves. Only after sleep became a research topic did scholars begin to study the sleep conditions of snorers. The study found that long-term snorers or those who snore severely often suffer from sleep apnea syndrome, with respiratory arrest during the entire sleep process and reduced oxygen in the blood. This means that the amount of oxygen inhaled throughout the night is less than that of normal people, which will affect memory over time. It has been measured that the memory function of snorers is indeed worse than that of normal people, but the snorers themselves are not aware of it. Therefore, many scholars now suggest that people who snore should undergo polysomnography to see if they have sleep apnea syndrome, and if so, they should receive necessary treatment.
