Baby has a cold and runny nose, four ways to help you deal with it calmly

On weekdays, when parents deal with symptoms of cold and runny nose in their babies, the choice of method is very important. The following four methods can help you deal with it calmly.

1. Natural remedies

(1) Hot compress: When the nasal mucosa is exposed to heat, it shrinks and the nasal cavity becomes more unobstructed.

(2) Breast milk drops: The warmth of breast milk can temporarily clear the baby’s nasal cavity.

(3) Elevate the head: slightly relieve the symptoms of nasal congestion.

If the baby has a blocked nose, parents can put one or two towels under the child's mattress and slightly raise the head to relieve the nasal congestion. However, never let babies under 2 years old sleep directly on the pillow or place the pillow under the mattress, as this can easily cause suffocation or damage the spine.

(4) Help your baby to squeeze out his nose: This is the most effective way to help your baby breathe smoothly.

2. Rational drug treatment

Do not use antibiotics casually for babies with colds. Instead, choose some antiviral drugs because colds are caused by viruses. Commonly used anti-cold virus drugs for children include:

A. Morpholin (morpholinium): the dosage is generally 10 mg per kilogram of body weight per day, taken orally in 3 divided doses.

B. Take Isatis root granules, half a bag each time, 3 times a day, with boiled water.

C. Amantadine can be used in combination with antibiotics to improve the efficacy when children have fever due to viral infection.

D. Antiviral oral solution, half a bottle each time.

E. Anti-cold and detoxifying granules, half a bag each time, 3 times a day, taken with boiled water.

3. Home care

Before going to bed at night, soak your baby's feet in warm water until the baby's forehead sweats slightly, then the baby should drink more warm water and go to bed as early as possible.

After going to bed, you can rub your baby's back up and down through the clothes. Rubbing the back to warm it up can help prevent colds. If your baby has a mild nasal congestion, you can rub his little ears until they turn red, which is also very effective in treating nasal congestion. In addition, for babies over 1 year old, add a thin slice of ginger to the soup, and give the baby something light for the next meal, such as porridge, soft noodles, etc.

4. Hospital treatment

If the baby has fever, cough, pus in the ears, pain when touching the ears, seems to be in pain when eating, sneezing continuously, runny nose, itchy eyes or tears, etc., parents need to take the baby to the hospital for diagnosis.
