Symptoms of baby's bloating

Babies will encounter various problems during their growth. The most common one is bloating. In fact, bloating is not a disease because the child’s digestive system is not yet fully developed. In most cases, baby bloating does not require medication. It is best for parents to use other methods to relieve the baby’s bloating. So what are the symptoms of baby bloating?

What are the symptoms of baby's bloating?

Normal newborns often have a mild or obvious abdominal bulge after feeding, and sometimes there is milk regurgitation, but the baby is quiet, the abdomen is soft, no lumps can be felt, the bowel movements are normal, and the growth and development are good. This is usually called "physiological abdominal distension." This is because the newborn's abdominal wall muscles are thin, have low tension, and produce more gas in the digestive tract.

However, if the abdominal distension is obvious, accompanied by frequent vomiting, the baby is in poor spirits, does not eat, the abdominal wall is hard, shiny and red, small blood vessels can be seen exposed (medically known as varicose veins) and lumps can be felt; some are accompanied by jaundice, white stools, bloody stools, tarry stools, fever or the above-mentioned "five no" symptoms, these are all manifestations of the disease and you should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible.

In addition, the baby's stomach makes rumbling sounds, which are bowel sounds, mainly caused by swallowing a large amount of air when feeding. They are the sounds made by gas and liquid with intestinal peristalsis. It is recommended that every time the mother breastfeeds or feeds the baby, the baby's head should be slightly elevated and the nipple hole should be filled with milk to prevent the baby from inhaling too much air. After the baby finishes feeding, sit him upright and pat his back until he burps. Burping can help expel the air inhaled into the stomach while sucking milk, which will alleviate this symptom.

The baby's bloating is often caused by indigestion, which will cause the baby to cry incessantly, not want to eat, etc. In this case, give the baby an abdominal massage. Specific method: Massage the baby's abdomen clockwise one hour after a meal. This can promote the baby's intestinal peristalsis. Massage several times a day. At the same time, pay attention to gentle techniques.

Reasons for baby's bloated belly

1. When the abdominal muscles do not have enough strength to bear the weight, the abdomen will appear more prominent, especially when the baby is held, the abdomen will appear to sag. In addition, the baby's body is round from front to back, not slightly flat like an adult's, which is one of the reasons why the belly looks bloated.

2. Babies are more prone to bloating than adults. If the baby eats and sucks too quickly, he will inhale air into the stomach; if the hole of the bottle nipple is not of appropriate size, air will also enter the baby's body through the gap in the nipple; in addition, the baby cries excessively and inhales air; eating milk or other food will ferment in the digestive tract through the action of intestinal bacteria and other digestive enzymes, producing a large amount of gas, which will cause abdominal distension.

3. Indigestion and constipation cause the accumulation of feces in the intestines, which promotes the proliferation of gas-producing bad bacteria. Milk protein allergy, lactose intolerance, enteritis, etc. can cause digestion and poor absorption, which can easily produce a large amount of gas.

4. Enlarged organs or tumors in the abdominal cavity, such as hepatosplenomegaly, cirrhosis, etc. The organs and tissues in the abdominal cavity may grow tumors, and the larger the tumor grows, the more it will cause abdominal distension.

5. The main symptom of lower intestinal obstruction in babies is abdominal distension. Intestinal obstruction in infants and young children, including severe complete obstruction, is often discovered soon after birth due to obvious symptoms. However, if the blockage is incomplete, it may still be missed after a long delay. Such as congenital megacolon.
