How long can I exercise after spondylolysis surgery?

For patients with more serious lumbar diseases, general massage and plaster treatments are of little use. Only surgery can help patients recover their health. However, surgery generally has a significant impact on the body, so patients have a lot to pay attention to after surgery. You should not engage in any strenuous exercise for a long period of time after the operation, otherwise it will irritate the wound again.

1. Breathing training (can start the next day after surgery)

It is recommended to do abdominal breathing, slow and forceful deep breathing, that is, "inflate the belly" when inhaling, and contract the abdominal muscles to "deflate the belly" when exhaling, and try to do it as hard as possible without causing obvious pain to the wound. Pay attention to moderate exercise.

2. Turning over training (can start on the second day after surgery)

Turn over as a whole body (taking turning over to the right as an example)

1) Straighten your right leg before turning over and bend your left leg as much as possible;

2) Push the bed with your left foot, reach your left hand to the right side of your body and grab the edge of the bed;

3) The left hand and left leg exert force to the right at the same time;

4) When turning over, the spine must remain in a straight line and must not bend or rotate to complete the overall turning movement.

In the early stages, family members can help by supporting the patient's waist and back from behind to assist in turning over, and the patient can complete the movement by himself after becoming proficient in it.

3. Posture change training (depending on the surgery, follow the doctor's advice on the start time)

(This needs to be done under the guidance of a doctor, and the standing time is determined according to different surgical situations. Please do not try it on your own!)

Supine-Standing (right side as an example):

1) First, use a lumbar support to protect the lumbar spine at the surgical site;

2) Turn over to the left side, then turn over to the prone position and move closer to the edge of the bed;

3) Place your hands in front of your chest;

4) Place the right lower limb on the ground and support the bed with both hands;

5) Slowly lift your body up and move slightly to the left;

6) Place the left lower limb on the ground;

7) Support your upper body with your hands and stand up.
