What causes frequent burping?

If you burp frequently, you should pay attention to it, as there are many causes. The most common ones are some organic diseases, including brain tumors. Some other metabolic diseases may also cause this situation, such as uremia. Digestive system diseases also often cause this phenomenon, such as gastrointestinal diseases and liver and gallbladder diseases, which are all causes of frequent hiccups.

What causes frequent burping?

1. Central

The hiccup reflex arc has a loss of inhibitory function. The most important site of organic lesions is the medulla oblongata, including brain tumors, cerebrovascular accidents, encephalitis, meningitis. Metabolic lesions include uremia and alcohol poisoning. Others include multiple sclerosis.

2. Peripheral

In fact, the so-called hiccups are also called belching. Generally, there are many reasons for hiccups. The so-called peripheral hiccups are caused by the stimulation of the centripetal pathway of the hiccup reflex arc. Irritation of the phrenic nerve includes mediastinal tumors, esophagitis, esophageal cancer, thoracic aortic aneurysm, etc. Peridiaphragmatic lesions such as pneumonia, pleurisy, pericarditis, myocardial infarction, subdiaphragmatic abscess, hiatal hernia, etc.; vagus nerve stimulation can cause gastric dilatation, gastritis, gastric cancer, pancreatitis, etc.

3. Improper diet

Eating too fast and too much, eating too much raw and cold food, and taking too many cold medicines can cause cold air to accumulate in the stomach, causing the stomach to lose harmony and descend, and causing stomach qi to rise up. It can also move up to the diaphragm along the hand Taiyin meridian, causing poor qi flow in the diaphragm, and qi rushes up to the throat, causing hiccups. For example, "Dan Xi's Heart Method·Cough and Regurgitation" says: "Cough and regurgitation is a disease, which was called hiccups in ancient times and is called belching nowadays. It is caused by stomach cold, and the cold air rises up and causes belching." If you eat too much spicy and hot fried food, drink too much wine and have thick flavors, or use too much warm tonic medicine, it will cause internal dryness and heat, visceral qi will not function, the stomach will not be able to harmonize and descend, and the stomach qi will rise up and move the diaphragm, which may also cause hiccups. Just as it is written in the book "Jing Yue Quan Shu·Hiccups": "It is because there is fire in the stomach, so it rushes up to cause hiccups." These are all describing that hiccups are caused by improper diet.

4. Frustration

Anger hurts the liver, causes unfavorable Qi movement, and can affect the stomach, causing the stomach to lose its harmony and descend, and causing the stomach Qi to rise and move the diaphragm. Or liver depression can suppress the spleen, or worry and worry can hurt the spleen, causing the spleen to lose its healthy function and breed phlegm, or there is phlegm and fluid retention in the body, and due to anger and Qi reversal, the stomach Qi can rise and move the diaphragm with phlegm, all of which can cause hiccups. As the book "Ancient and Modern Medical Complete Works, Cough and Reversal" says: "People who are suppressed and angry and cannot carry out their will often suffer from cough and reverse symptoms."

5. Deficiency of vital energy or insufficient constitution

Drugs, general paralysis, post-surgery, mental factors, inner ear and prostate diseases can also cause hiccups. Deficiency of vital energy or insufficient constitution, old age and physical weakness, or long-term illness with vital energy not restored, or excessive vomiting and diarrhea, or improper attack due to weakness, etc., can all damage the middle qi, weaken the spleen and stomach, cause the stomach to lose harmony and descend, or have insufficient stomach yin, which cannot moisten and descend, causing the stomach qi to rise against the diaphragm and cause hiccups. If the disease affects the kidneys deeply, the kidneys will lose their ability to absorb and absorb, and the rushing qi will rise, carrying the stomach qi upward and moving the diaphragm, which may also cause hiccups. For example, the book “Zhengzhi Huibu·Er Ni” states: “After suffering from typhoid fever or constipation, the elderly, the weak, and women after childbirth often have hiccups, which are all signs of a serious illness.”
