Is it harmful if the baby's umbilical cord does not fall off?

In fact, the baby's umbilical cord will usually fall off on its own, but the time it takes to fall off may vary depending on the baby's physical constitution. For most babies, the umbilical cord will fall off on its own in about a week, as long as there is no bleeding around the umbilical cord. But some babies fall off later, but there are very few children who do not fall off. If the umbilical cord does not fall off, it will cause certain harm to the baby. What should you do if this happens?

If it does not fall off for more than 7 days or even longer, it may be caused by local inflammation or tissue hyperplasia! You should go to the hospital for further examination and treatment. If the remaining umbilical cord becomes dry and black, you can gently scrub it with 75% alcohol and the dry and black umbilical cord will fall off. If it still does not fall off, you should continue to scrub it. If there is local purulent secretion, you can first clean it with hydrogen peroxide, and then gently scrub it with 75% alcohol. You can also go to the hospital for treatment. Never cut it blindly.

Before the umbilical cord falls off, keep it dry. The navel of a newborn is generally not covered with gauze, as this will help the umbilical cord dry and fall off faster. Never cover the navel with wet clothes or diapers. If the covering gauze is wet, it must be replaced in time. When replacing, open the gauze and use a 75% alcohol cotton ball to gently scrub from the base of the umbilical cord to the surrounding skin. Do not rub back and forth to avoid bringing germs from the surrounding skin into the base of the navel and causing infection.

Newborn babies are very fragile and have low antibacterial ability, so more attention should be paid to the umbilical cord care of newborn babies.

1. Mothers must wash their hands when caring for the umbilical cord area to prevent bacteria on their hands from infecting the baby's navel.

2. When bathing your baby, do not let the umbilical cord get wet before it falls off. If you take your baby swimming during the newborn stage, be sure to use waterproof stickers.

3. The umbilical cord and the skin around it should be kept dry and clean. In particular, the diaper should not cover the navel to avoid contaminating the navel wound with urine or feces.

4. Wipe twice a day with an iodine cotton swab, once in the morning and once in the evening. When wiping, lift the small string at the umbilical cord ligation site with one hand, and use a cotton swab dipped in iodine to thoroughly wipe the place where the umbilical cord is connected to the flesh with the other hand.

The baby's umbilical cord has not fallen off after one month. I was shocked after reading it.
