Is there a connection between hiccups and the heart?

I believe everyone has experienced the feeling of hiccups. If the hiccups only last for a short time, you may not feel anything unusual, but if the hiccups last for a long time, you may feel an indescribable pain in the chest. Many people believe that if you hiccup frequently, it must be related to a disease, such as heart disease. So, does hiccups have anything to do with the heart?

Generally speaking, there are many diseases that can cause hiccups, and heart disease may cause hiccups. If it occurs in uremia, peritonitis, or after laparotomy, special care must be taken. Or if you have gastrointestinal, respiratory, heart disease or other diseases, you should also be cautious. If coronary heart disease is highly suspected, coronary angiography can be performed.

Hiccups are medically known as eructations. They are a reflex movement caused by the stimulation of spasms in the diaphragm or respiratory auxiliary muscles that separate the chest and abdominal cavities. Hiccups can be divided into two categories: benign self-limiting and refractory. The former is caused by eating too cold or too hot food or being overly nervous or excited. It is non-persistent and self-healing and does not require special treatment. The latter is mostly caused by improper diet, damage to stomach qi, depression, stomach qi reflux, or physical weakness after illness, excessive fatigue, or ulcers, epilepsy, brain tumors, drug allergies, etc.

Heart disease is a common circulatory system disease. The circulatory system is composed of the heart, blood vessels, and neurohumoral tissues that regulate blood circulation. Circulatory system diseases are also called cardiovascular diseases, which include diseases of all the above-mentioned tissues and organs. They are common diseases among internal medicine diseases, among which heart disease is the most common and can significantly affect the patient's labor force.

Finally, the author recommends that patients with heart disease should not overeat and avoid spicy, raw, cold, and irritating foods. Increase physical exercise, improve physical fitness, and wish you a speedy recovery!
