Navel water discharge

Navel water discharge

The health status of newborn babies is what parents are most concerned about. Parents' care of their babies is very important. What we want to remind everyone is that we must not be careless about the baby's belly button. If the belly button is not properly cared for, it will affect the baby's health. It is very common for newborns to have water discharge from their belly buttons. So what factors cause water discharge from belly buttons?

Many parents, especially first-time parents, regret and worry when they see water flowing from their baby's belly button. In fact, many factors can cause belly button water to flow. Here we introduce some common causes of belly button water:

1. Umbilical cord velvet Umbilical cord velvet is actually the residue of the umbilical mucosa, which is one of the reasons why there is more water discharge from the navel. The appearance of umbilical cord velvet is very similar to a piece of pink meat. It is located in the center of the navel and has a lot of secretions. If you don't pay attention to it when caring, there will be a small amount of bloody secretions. Therefore, newborns with umbilical cord fungus should go to the hospital and ask a doctor to treat it.

2. Umbilical granuloma refers to small polyp-like granulomas formed due to the stimulation of foreign bodies on the unhealed wound after umbilical cord cutting. It manifests as a cherry-red swelling in the navel, with tissue ranging in size from rice grains to soybeans, thick, bloody secretions, which stain clothes and do not heal for a long time. For this type of umbilical granuloma, you can go to the hospital and use 10% nitrate to corrode or use sterilized scissors to cut off excess granulation tissue. At the same time, you must also pay attention to local cleanliness and hygiene. Most children recover quickly.

3. Umbilical eczema is more common in infants and young children. However, some children have eczema in the navel, which is manifested by small red papules or skin erosions in or around the navel, and the secretions vary from time to time. Since itching often causes scratches around the navel, for this type of umbilical eczema, you can use inositol solution to clean the eczema area, and then apply 40% zinc oxide oil blind, which can have a good therapeutic effect.

4. Umbilical cord bleeding: Within 1 week to 1 month after the umbilical cord falls off, if the newborn coughs or cries hard, causing the intra-abdominal pressure to increase, the blood vessels in the remaining end of the umbilical cord will open slightly, resulting in a small amount of bleeding. The reason is that after the umbilical cord is cut off, the blood vessels in the umbilical cord are only closed functionally, but are still not closed anatomically, and are a potential channel. Once the child's abdominal pressure increases, there will be a small amount of bleeding in the umbilical cord, which will appear as a little brown or bright red blood stains on the newborn's clothes. Parents do not need to panic at this time. First, use 75% alcohol to gently wipe off the blood on the navel, and then bandage it with sterilized gauze. Do not use unsterilized water or cloth to clean or fill the belly button to stop bleeding, so as to avoid umbilical infection.

5. The sunken navel caused by omphalitis is a dark corner, which is very easy to accumulate water and dirt and is not easy to dry. In addition, the temperature here is suitable, making it a good culture medium for bacteria. Furthermore, the umbilical stump has not yet completely closed after umbilical cord cutting and is not covered by skin. If the umbilical cord is not properly cared for, bacteria can grow and multiply in large numbers and cause omphalitis. The initial symptoms are redness at the root of the umbilical cord or the wound after the umbilical cord falls off, white purulent secretions, and further redness and swelling of the skin around the umbilicus. Bacteria can even enter the blood circulation through the umbilical blood vessels, a potential channel that has not yet been closed anatomically, causing serious consequences such as sepsis. Therefore, omphalitis in children must be treated promptly. First of all, keep the navel skin clean, hygienic and dry. Never apply unsterilized powder or lime on the navel. You can use a sterile cotton swab dipped in 75% alcohol to clean the secretions from the remaining part of the umbilicus or the depression of the umbilicus, then apply 1% gentian violet or 2.5% iodine, and then bandage it with sterile gauze. Neonatal omphalitis can be mild or severe, so it is best to go to the hospital for examination and treatment.

6. Urachal fistula: If a small amount of fluid leaks from the navel of an infant since the neonatal period and irritates the skin around the navel and causes local dermatitis, the presence of urachal fistula should be considered. This fistula is connected to the bladder at the bottom and opens at the navel at the top. When the bladder is swollen and urine flows out of the navel through this tube, the liquid that flows out is actually urine, and sometimes you can smell urine. Once this disease is diagnosed, surgery is necessary.

After reading the introduction in this article, everyone should have some understanding of the factors that cause water to flow from the belly button of a newborn baby. Parents should be reminded that they must take good care of their babies in life. When a baby has water flowing from the belly button, everyone must go to a regular hospital for diagnosis and treatment.
