Leukopenia

Leukopenia

White blood cells, also called leukocytes, are a very important component of the blood. They play many roles in our body. The biggest role is to defend against diseases. They can engulf bacteria and have a good protective effect on our body. If pathogens enter our body, the white blood cells will play their defensive role. If the white blood cell count decreases, our body's ability to resist external diseases will decrease.

Many times when we go to the hospital to check for some diseases, we need to do a routine blood test. The routine blood test will check the number of white blood cells. A decrease in white blood cells will cause many symptoms, such as dizziness, loss of appetite, and insomnia. Everyone should make a diagnosis in time.

[Clinical manifestations]

1. Leukocytopenia: generally there are non-specific symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, soreness of limbs, loss of appetite, low fever, insomnia, etc. A few are asymptomatic, while some patients suffer from recurrent oral ulcers, lung infections or urinary tract infections.

2. Granulocytosis: The onset is usually sudden, often with high fever, chills, headache, fatigue or extreme weakness. Sometimes necrotic ulcers may appear in the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, skin, rectum, anus, vagina, etc. People who are allergic to the drug may also develop exfoliative dermatitis, and in severe cases, central nervous system symptoms may occur. Septicemia or sepsis often develops rapidly and leads to death.

[diagnosis]

1. Leukocytopenia: Due to various reasons, the number of peripheral blood white blood cells is lower than 4.0x1109/L. child

The standard is less than 4.5x109/L for 10-14 years old, less than 5.0x 109/L for 5-9 years old, and less than 5.5x 109/L for those under 5 years old.

2. Neutropenia and agranulocytosis: When the absolute value of peripheral blood neutrophils in adults is lower than 2.0x109/L, it is called neutropenia; when it is lower than 0.5xl09/L, it is called neutropenia.

[treat]

1. Western medicine treatment

(1) Drugs that increase white blood cells, such as leucocytes or vitamin B4 10 mg, 3 times a day; or lithium carbonate 0.25 g, 3 times a day.

(2) Use G-CSF and GM-CSF to promote cell production.

2. Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

Deficiency of Qi and blood: shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness, sore limbs, loss of appetite, insomnia, or extreme weakness, frequent colds or other infectious symptoms, pale tongue with white coating, and weak pulse.

Treatment method: Nourish Qi and blood.

Prescription: 30 grams each of Codonopsis pilosula and Astragalus membranaceus, 10 grams each of Polygonatum sibiricum, Tangerine peel, Atractylodes macrocephala, Rehmannia glutinosa, Rehmannia glutinosa, Angelica sinensis, White Peony Root, and Salvia miltiorrhiza, 6 grams of Licorice, and 5 dates.

Chinese patent medicine: Fengling Capsules, Bailing Capsules, and Spirulina.

[Prevention and care]

1. Pay attention to your diet: avoid eating raw, cold and unclean food to prevent digestive system infection.

2. Try to avoid going to public places to prevent respiratory infections.

3. Avoid taking drugs that cause bone marrow damage or leukopenia.

4. Avoid contact with chemicals and radioactive substances that cause bone marrow damage.

Royal Jelly

It has the effects of nourishing, strengthening and invigorating the spleen, and is especially suitable for cancer patients with leukopenia after treatment. It was reported that a 70-year-old woman named Hu had breast cancer and then lung cancer. She was old and weak, with a white blood cell count of only 1000/ml. She could neither undergo surgery nor chemotherapy. She had to try fresh royal jelly for more than 10 days.

Ganoderma

"Shennong's Herbal Classic" records: Ganoderma lucidum "benefits essence and energy, and strengthens tendons and bones." "Compendium of Materia Medica" believes that Ganoderma lucidum can "cure deficiency and fatigue." According to the "Medical Information" published by the Second Hospital of Sanming District in Fujian in 1972: Artificially cultivated Ganoderma lucidum was used to treat 52 people with leukocytopenia caused by various reasons. The results showed that 11 people were significantly effective (the total white blood cell count increased by more than 2000/ml), 12 people improved (the total white blood cell count increased by 1000-2000/ml), and 21 people were improved (the total white blood cell count increased by 500-1000/ml). The recent effective rate was 84.6%, and the average white blood cell count increased by 1028/ml.

Placenta

It has a very good tonic and strengthening effect, and can replenish qi, nourish blood, and benefit essence. "Bencao Mengquan" says that it "cures all kinds of deficiencies and injuries." "Bencao Zaixin" believes that placenta "greatly replenishes vital energy." Leukopenia falls into the category of "deficiency" in traditional medicine. Regular consumption of placenta is quite effective in increasing the white blood cell count. You can use 1 fresh placenta, remove the membrane, wash it, dry it over a slow fire, grind it into powder and put it into hollow capsules. Take 3 to 5 capsules on an empty stomach before meals in the morning and evening.

Sheep bone marrow

The spinal cord or bone marrow of sheep can replenish yin and marrow, and can play a role in diet therapy for people who are weak and consumptive. It is also used in modern times to treat aplastic anemia. Professor Ye Juquan of China Pharmaceutical University's method of treating aplastic anemia is: take 1 to 2 raw sheep tibias (the long bones of sheep's limbs), smash them, add 10 to 20 red dates and an appropriate amount of glutinous rice, cook them together into a thin porridge, take it 2 to 3 times a day, and 15 days is a course of treatment. Use the same food

This method is also suitable for people with leukopenia to eat with their eyes.

Jujube

It has the effects of tonifying the spleen, replenishing qi and nourishing blood. It is suitable for people with blood deficiency, anemia, thrombocytopenia and leukopenia. For cancer patients who suffer from leukocytopenia after radiotherapy or chemotherapy, the folk custom is to cook porridge with red dates, red beans and glutinous rice and drink it.

mushroom

It is reported that polysaccharides extracted from artificially cultivated fresh shiitake mushrooms have obvious therapeutic effects on leukocytopenia. In folk medicine, leukopenia can be treated by cooking or eating appropriate amounts of fresh mushrooms regularly. Shiitake mushrooms can also improve the body's immune function and can be used to enhance the effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy for patients with malignant tumors, and to prevent and treat immunodeficiency syndromes such as leukopenia caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Astragalus

It has the effect of tonifying the middle and replenishing Qi, and treating weak symptoms. Medical practitioners of all dynasties believed that Astragalus was the best of all Qi-replenishing medicines, hence the name "Astragalus". "Ben Jing Feng Yuan" records: "Astragalus can replenish the deficiencies of the five internal organs." "Bencao Gangmu" says it: "helps strengthen qi, muscles and bones, grow flesh and replenish blood." Leukocytopenia is mostly a symptom of Qi deficiency in traditional Chinese medicine. In modern times, some doctors have created "Qi Buqi Shengbai Decoction", which aims to increase the white blood cell count by replenishing Qi. Astragalus is the best for replenishing qi, so it is suitable for people with leukopenia.

Leukopenia will have many effects on our body, so we should pay attention to it in time. If you go to the hospital for a check-up and find that your white blood cell count has decreased, you should actively seek treatment, especially in daily life. You should learn some dietary therapy methods that can increase white blood cells. Eating more of the foods we introduced above can also supplement the number of white blood cells.
