What is a scar diverticulum?

The most important thing for a woman after she becomes pregnant is childbirth. Depending on the position of the fetus in the woman's body, some may choose a caesarean section, which is a surgery. Caesarean section will definitely leave scars, so a common problem is scar diverticulum. Everyone’s situation is different, so scars can be treated after they are left, but what are scar diverticula?

What is a scar diverticulum?

1. During cesarean section, the upper edge of the uterine incision is thick and short, and the lower edge is thin and long, which makes it easy to sew without tightness. In addition, if the suture needles are too dense, it is easy to cause ischemia and necrosis of the incision, or even rupture to form a diverticulum;

2. The endometrium is not cleaned properly during the operation, resulting in endometriosis to the incision. Long-term endometrial hyperplasia and shedding bleeding increase the pressure on the uterine cavity and rupture to form a uterine incision diverticulum.

3. Infection: Uterine infection is caused by various factors such as premature rupture of membranes, gestational diabetes, etc., or the patient's poor recovery after surgery and decreased body resistance cause infection.

Clinical manifestations of scar diverticula

The patient's menstrual cycle, period and menstrual volume were normal before cesarean section. After cesarean section, menstruation occurs with normal cycles, and the main manifestations are excessive menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual period, and vaginal bleeding. The longest menstrual period is nearly 20 days, and there is no obvious abdominal pain. Gynecological examination: no obvious positive signs.

Treatment of scar diverticulum

1. Conservative treatment: Suitable for patients with menstrual period <14 days, little vaginal bleeding, and small uterine incision diverticulum (diverticulum depth <6mm) on B-ultrasound examination.

(1) Combined oral contraceptives such as Diane 35 and Yasmin can improve symptoms during medication. Some patients take them for 1-2 years, but some patients will still relapse after stopping the medication.

(2) Treat the disease based on syndrome differentiation using traditional Chinese medicine Shenghua Tang with added ingredients. Shenghua Tang has the effects of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, removing blood stasis and promoting new blood circulation, warming the meridians and stopping bleeding, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, sedative and analgesic. After the application of traditional Chinese medicine, it can promote the discharge of blood and fluid accumulation in the diverticulum, accelerate the repair of the wound, and thus restore the menstrual period to normal.

2. Surgical treatment: Suitable for patients with menstrual period >14 days, severe symptoms, and large diverticulum (diverticulum depth >6mm).

(1 ) Repair and plastic surgery of the incision under hysteroscopy, including removal of the inflammatory hyperplasia of the endometrium within the incision and cutting the lower edge of the incision to reduce menstrual blood accumulation, but the effect is often good in the short term after surgery and is prone to recurrence. In addition, laparoscopic incision repair and plastic surgery, removal of weak parts, and re-suturing also depend on the individual healing situation.

(2) Vaginal hysterectomy is safe and feasible, as it involves little trauma, quick patient recovery, and preserves reproductive function, conforms to the concept of minimally invasive surgery, and is safe and feasible.

(3) Hysterectomy can be performed for patients with poor treatment response and no fertility requirements.

The above is the editor’s summary of relevant information on the question of what scar diverticulum is. Pay attention to surgical wounds and wounds left by diseases. These areas need special attention. If these areas are not restored in time, it will lead to recurrence of the disease or even wound ulceration and infection. I hope you all don’t have any disease troubles!
