Can Vajra Sitting Cure Lumbar Disease?

In middle-aged and elderly people, due to the unreasonable living and eating habits when they were young, as well as the gradual aging and degeneration of body functions, they are prone to chronic diseases. Lumbar spondylosis is a very common chronic disease in the human body, and its treatment also takes a lot of time. So can the traditional Vajra posture treat lumbar disease in the human body?

The most ideal sitting posture is the "seven-point sitting posture". The so-called "seven branches" refer to the seven key points of physical requirements:

Cross-legged sitting

First place the left foot on the right leg, and then place the right foot on the left leg. This is called Vajra posture (for men). First place the right foot on the left leg, and then place the left foot on the right foot. This is called Ruyi Sitting (for ladies). According to some traditions, both men and women adopt the Vajra posture. Practitioners please follow the teachings of your own master. The double-lotus sitting posture stabilizes the center of gravity, which is conducive to body relaxation and long-term meditation. In addition, crossing the feet greatly slows down blood flow, reduces physiological activities, and increases the static pressure of the body cavity, which is conducive to minimizing the metabolic rate and facilitating meditation. If beginners are unable to do this for the time being, they can just place one foot on top of the other (single cross-legged position). As for whether the left foot is on top or the right foot, please follow the instructions of your own master. If you still can't do it, you can just cross your feet and sit casually.

Spine straight

Each cone of the spine is naturally straight, like stacked abacus beads. Due to the natural physiological curvature, attention should be paid to correction.

Shoulder stretch

The shoulders should be relaxed but the chest should not be puffed out. Specific practices for items 2 and 3: After sitting down, lift your head and straighten your entire spine. Slightly lift your chest and open your shoulders. Then relax from top to bottom, and your upper body will be in a naturally relaxed and straight state. Just maintain this without getting nervous or slacking off. If items 2 and 3 are done well, you can achieve the effect of "loosening the chest and filling the abdomen", making it easier to achieve a calm mind and a calm breathing.

Make a mudra with your hands below the navel

Place your right palm on your left palm (for men), or your left palm on your right palm (for women), with your thumbs lightly touching each other and then relax naturally on your legs. (According to some traditions, both men and women adopt the first method. Practitioners should follow the teachings of their own guru.)

People who are easily distracted can use another hand seal: lightly touch the base of the ring finger with the thumb, and lightly clench it into a fist, place it on the knees, straighten the arms naturally, and keep the shoulders balanced.

Head Centered

The head should not be tilted up or down, and the chin should be slightly retracted (not lowered). This is beneficial for straightening the cervical cone and can also slightly compress the carotid artery, slowing down physiological activities, reducing metabolism, and making it easier to calm down.

Eyes slightly closed

Keep your eyes half open, so that you can see the object about three meters in front of you. Your eyes can be fixed on a still object about one elbow away from your body. (This still life should be ① small ② solid color ③ simple in shape. Such as rosary beads.) If it is easily distracted, you can close it and leave only a ray of light. If you feel drowsy easily, open your eyes wide and look straight ahead.

Licking the palate

Lightly lick the roof of your mouth with the front half of your tongue (do not press the tip of your tongue hard against it). The specific trick is: expel all the air from the back of the tongue, relax the throat, and the tongue will retract naturally without any force. Close your lips lightly, relax your mouth muscles naturally, and do not bite your upper and lower teeth, leaving a slight gap.

By practicing meditation according to the seven-limbed sitting posture, you can adjust and maintain your internal energy, make your life full of vitality, and generate inner enlightenment. Items 1, 2, 4 and 5 can bring in the pervasive Qi; Item 2 can bring in the ascending Qi; Items 2 and 3 can bring in the waiting Qi; Item 7 can bring in the ascending Qi.
