What is Ma Huang Sheng Ma Tang?

The knowledge of Chinese medicine is very profound, and it is also our country's tradition. We have to admit that in many aspects, the uses and effects of Chinese medicine are much better than Western medicine, especially in regulating the body, and the side effects are also small. Ma Huang Sheng Ma Tang is a traditional Chinese medicine decoction that is also used for conditioning and treatment.

1. Prescription: 2.5 liang of Ephedra (without nodes) (16g), 1.1 liang of Cimicifuga (3g), 1.1 liang of Angelica (5g), 18 zhu of Anemarrhena (6g), 18 zhu of Scutellaria (6g), 18 zhu of Weirui (18 zhu)

(6g) Peony 6zhu (3g) Asparagus 18zhu (core removed) (6g) Cinnamon 6zhu (peeled) (3g) Poria 6zhu (3g) Licorice 6zhu (roasted) (3g) Gypsum 6zhu (crushed, wrapped in cotton) (6g) Atractylodes 6zhu (3g) Dried ginger 6zhu (3g)

2. [Decoction] Take the above 14 ingredients, add one dou of water, boil the ephedra for one or two times, remove the foam; add other herbs, boil until three liters are left, remove the residue, and divide into three portions to take while warm. The difference is like cooking three dou of rice, letting it finish and then sweating to recover (modern usage: decocted in water and taken).

3. This prescription is mainly used to treat typhoid fever, which is caused by improper purgation, with damage to both yin and yang, and heat on the upper body and cold on the lower body. When the Yang Qi is concentrated in the upper part, there will be symptoms of heat such as sore throat and vomiting of pus and blood; when the spleen Qi is weak and is withdrawn downward, there will be symptoms of deficiency-cold such as diarrhea and constipation; deep and slow Cun pulse, cold hands and feet, and absent pulse in the lower part are signs of disorder of Yin and Yang and stagnation of Yang. Ma Huang Sheng Ma Tang is used to release the depressed Yang to clear the upper heat, warm the middle and strengthen the spleen to treat the lower cold. Although there are many medicinal ingredients in the prescription, the selection of the medicines and the amount used are still quite rigorous and deserve further study.
