Symptoms of vocal cord paralysis, these five points are the most typical

At present, if people find that they have vocal cord paralysis, they need to understand the daily manifestations of the disease in advance. So, what are the symptoms of vocal cord paralysis?

(a) Unilateral incomplete paralysis:

The main problem is vocal cord abduction disorder, and the symptoms are mostly not obvious. Under indirect laryngoscopy, one side of the vocal cord was found to be near the midline, unable to abduct during inspiration, but able to close during pronunciation.

(ii) Unilateral complete paralysis:

The vocal cord abduction and adduction functions on the affected side disappeared. Examination showed that the vocal cords were fixed in the paramedian position, the arytenoid cartilages were tilted forward, the vocal cords on the affected side were lower than those on the healthy side, the vocal cords could not close during pronunciation, and the pronunciation was hoarse and weak.

(III) Bilateral incomplete paralysis:

It is rare and is usually caused by thyroid surgery or laryngeal trauma. The vocal cords on both sides cannot abduct and are close to the midline. The glottis is in the shape of a small crack. The patient may be asymptomatic when calm, but often feels difficulty breathing during physical activities. Once an upper respiratory tract infection occurs, severe breathing difficulties may occur.

(IV) Bilateral complete paralysis:

The vocal cords on both sides are in a lateral median position and can neither be closed nor abducted. The pronunciation is hoarse and weak. The breathing is generally normal, but food and saliva can be easily inhaled into the lower respiratory tract, causing choking and coughing.

(V) Bilateral vocal cord adduction paralysis:

It is more common in functional aphonia, where the vocal cords cannot be retracted when pronouncing words, but there is sound when coughing.
