What to drink for gout? What to drink for gout?

In the past decade or so, the incidence of gout has been increasing. Not only does it affect middle-aged and elderly people, but there is also a trend of younger people suffering from gout, making it a common disease. The reason for this can be said to be that people eat too well and do not pay attention to self-care. So what things in life are good for gout?

1. Broth, porridge soup and other soups

Gout patients are often advised not to drink fish soup or meat soup that has been cooked for a long time, which makes sense.

The purine in food will be metabolized into uric acid in the body, thus affecting the control of uric acid and gout. At the same time, purine is a substance that is easily soluble in water, and the purine content in thick broth is quite high. It is best not to add chicken essence to the soup, because the sodium inosinate and sodium guanylate added to chicken essence will participate in the body's metabolism and be converted into uric acid.

In contrast, porridge and soups made from various grains are good choices. For example, for thin millet porridge, oatmeal porridge, or corn porridge, add more water and scoop out the part without rice grains to drink as soup. It can not only replenish water, but also increase B vitamins and potassium. The purine content is also very low, making it a good choice for replenishing water.

2. Coffee and tea

The relationship between coffee, tea and gout has always been very confusing. In theory, coffee contains caffeine, and tea contains caffeine and theanolide, both of which may increase uric acid.

However, an epidemiological survey in Japan showed that tea drinking habits have nothing to do with the risk of gout. Although drinking tea cannot prevent gout, it is harmless for gout patients to drink tea. However, drinking coffee seems to be beneficial for gout. The benefits of coffee may be due to the large amount of potassium in it, or the effect of other special ingredients.

However, people often add sugar and creamer when drinking coffee, which is not conducive to weight and blood lipid control; at the same time, coffee has a stimulating effect, and it is not recommended for gout patients to drink large amounts of coffee. If you want to get the benefits of coffee, it is recommended to brew it thinner and not add sugar or coffee creamer.

While strong tea is not recommended, drinking lighter tea is beneficial and can be used as a daily source of hydration.

3. Sweet drinks such as cola

If you can’t drink alcohol at the dinner table, is it okay to drink sweet drinks? The answer is no.

The role of sweet drinks in promoting gout has been confirmed in many studies. One of the main ingredients in sweetened drinks is fructose, which promotes the production of uric acid.

Those sweet drinks with a refreshing taste, especially carbonated drinks, contain a large amount of "high fructose corn syrup". Drinking these drinks will cause you to consume a large amount of fructose.

4. Beer, liquor and other alcoholic beverages

People with high uric acid and gout should try not to drink alcohol. Not only beer, but also liquor is not allowed. Red wine is also under control, but it does not have the legendary effect of "preventing gout".

Alcohol promotes the production of uric acid and causes the accumulation of lactic acid and ketone bodies, competitively inhibiting the excretion of uric acid. Drinking a lot of alcohol often leads to a sudden increase in blood uric acid. If high-purine and high-fat foods are consumed at the same time, it will become a direct cause of acute gout attacks.

5. Commercially available or homemade juice

Several large-scale epidemiological studies have also confirmed that not only carbonated drinks, but even sweetened fruit juices, although they are indeed 100% fruit juice, increase the risk of obesity, diabetes and gout when the intake increases.

Although the sugar in fruits is worrying, studies have shown that increasing vitamin C intake can help lower blood uric acid levels. At the same time, the potassium in the fruit is beneficial to the excretion of uric acid, and the polyphenols in it are beneficial to reduce the level of inflammatory response, which are all beneficial to gout.

However, considering that my country's dietary pattern is not consistent with that of the West, and that fruits contain a lot of sugar after all, it may not be appropriate to recommend all gout patients to eat a lot of fruit. But according to the normal food intake of healthy people, eating 250g of fruit a day is still fine.

6. Boiled water, mineral water

Boiled water and mineral water can be consumed in unlimited quantities.

If you have kidney stones, you should drink about 3000 ml of water every day. Considering that gout usually occurs at night, it is especially recommended to drink water before going to bed to avoid blood thickening at night and increased blood uric acid levels, which increase the risk of acute attacks.
