Early symptoms of osteosarcoma

Early symptoms of osteosarcoma

Many people don’t know much about osteosarcoma. It is also a relatively serious disease. For osteosarcoma, early detection and early treatment are necessary, which is also very important to ensure the effectiveness of treatment. In daily life, as long as we strengthen prevention and learn some self-examination methods, we can ensure early detection. Therefore, it is also important to understand some early symptoms of osteosarcoma.

Early symptoms of osteosarcoma

1. Unexplained limb pain, deep in the body, intermittent at first, then gradually worsens and becomes persistent; 2. Limb pain after trauma, with symptoms becoming more severe over a long period of time; 3. Limb pain is more severe at night than during the day; 4. Long-term fever of unknown cause; 5. Swelling occurs soon after the pain, with increased local skin temperature and congestion and redness.

When the above suspicious signals appear, we should neither be overly cautious nor take them lightly. You should go to the hospital in time and undergo necessary examinations to avoid delaying the treatment and causing lifelong regrets.

What is the difference between pain caused by osteosarcoma and growing pains during puberty? Growing pains are mostly pain in the epiphyseal end (as shown in Figure 1) after exercise, which is related to the insertion point of the tendon. For example, when the doctor presses the insertion point of the tibial tuberosity during physical examination, the patient will feel pain, or when pressing the anserine pes (as shown in Figure 2), the patient will feel that the pain is aggravated. The pain of osteosarcoma is mostly persistent, and the patient will feel pain even when he or she is not moving. The pain is more obvious especially after the patient falls asleep. This night pain is a very obvious feature of osteosarcoma pain and is a question that surgeons, especially bone oncologists, must ask their patients.

In addition to pain and swelling, if the tumor develops rapidly, you may also see dilated veins on the patient's skin surface. In addition, some children are unwilling to straighten their joints in order to reduce pain, and will perform protective flexion movements, causing joint flexion deformities.
