EB positive, occasionally bloody nasal discharge

EB positivity mainly refers to the EB virus being positive. The occasional bloody nasal discharge of EB positive patients makes many patients worry that they have nasopharyngeal cancer. Although there are similarities in the symptoms, it is not necessarily caused by nasopharyngeal cancer. We must have a correct understanding of this disease. If nasopharyngeal cancer is suspected, it is best to conduct further examination and not scare yourself.

At present, a large amount of scientific research has proved that Epstein-Barr virus antibodies are closely related to the incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However, this does not mean that as long as the Epstein-Barr virus antibody is positive, you will get nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma is related to genetic, chemical, and environmental factors. The relationship between EB virus antibodies and the incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma is not an inevitable one. Clinically, there are many people whose EB virus-related antibodies have been positive or even have high titers for many years, but they have not developed nasopharyngeal cancer.

There are many reasons for a positive EBV antibody test:

1. Cold. Common cold viruses may cause a positive EBV antibody test.

2. You have experienced some discomfort or long-term fatigue before. It can be said that almost all Chinese people have been infected with EB virus antibodies. From an immunological point of view, discomfort or fatigue may cause a cellular recall reaction leading to a positive EB virus antibody test.

3. Transient increase . It is possible that the EB virus antibody test was positive at the time of the blood test, but was negative when tested later. In short, the factors that cause a positive EB virus antibody test are very complex. Antibodies can even play an immune role in some cases, such as membrane antibodies, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Early symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma that should not be ignored

Like most cancers, the early symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma are relatively hidden, and blood in the mucus is just one of them. When the following five symptoms appear, you should be alert to the possibility of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and seek medical attention in time.

1. Blood in the nasal discharge: Blood in the nasal discharge is a typical symptom of early nasopharyngeal carcinoma. It can also manifest as blood in the nasal discharge from the mouth, also known as blood in the aspirated sputum, which often occurs after getting up in the morning.

2. Nasal congestion: Nasal congestion is another early symptom of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, mostly manifested as unilateral nasal congestion. As nasopharyngeal tumors enlarge, bilateral nasal obstruction may occur.

3. Tinnitus and hearing loss: When the tumor of nasopharyngeal cancer continues to grow and is accompanied by infection and edema, the blocked Eustachian tube opening can cause tinnitus, ear congestion and hearing loss.

4. Headache: The headache symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma often manifest as migraine, pain in the occipital area or neck, which are mostly related to cancer tissue invading the bones, nerves and blood vessels at the base of the skull.

5. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck: Abnormal lumps in the neck are often caused by lymph node metastasis of cancer cells, which can easily be mistaken for lymph node inflammation or lymph node tuberculosis.
