Pain on the right side of the stomach

Pain on the right side of the stomach

Many people who suffer from stomach problems do so because they did not take good care of their stomachs in the past. As the stomach is a very delicate organ in the human body, a person's living habits and eating habits can easily cause stomach problems. Generally, patients with stomach problems will experience paroxysmal stomach pain, but the location of the stomach pain is different for some people. Some people experience dull pain on the right side of the stomach. What's going on?

1. What causes pain on the right side of the stomach?

Gastric pain is a spleen and gastrointestinal disease characterized by pain in the upper abdomen due to obstruction of gastric qi, stasis of gastric collaterals, lack of nourishment to the stomach, and pain caused by obstruction. Stomachache, also known as epigastric pain. The main causes of the disease are exogenous cold evil, dietary damage, emotional frustration, weak spleen and stomach, etc. Stomachache is the most common syndrome among spleen and gastrointestinal diseases, with a high incidence rate among the population, and is effectively treated with traditional Chinese medicine. In Western medicine, when the main clinical manifestation is upper abdominal pain, the above syndrome differentiation and treatment can be used for diseases such as acute gastritis, chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric spasm, gastroptosis, gastric mucosal prolapse, and gastric neurosis.

2. How to judge whether you have stomach pain

2.1. Location of pain

The stomach is located in the upper abdomen, in the depression below the sternum and above the navel (close to the pit of the stomach). If the abdomen is divided into four areas, pain in the upper middle part of the left side is most likely stomach pain. However, it may also be caused by diseases of the esophagus, duodenum, gallbladder, liver or pancreas, so the duration of pain, accompanying symptoms, etc. are also needed as criteria for judgment.

2.2 Pain duration

Stomach pain occurs after or before meals? After eating certain foods? Or when you are too hungry, too full, or overeating. Since stomach discomfort is mostly closely related to eating, it is more accurate to use the time, habits, content, and type of eating as the criteria for identification.

2.3. Observe symptoms

There are many symptoms associated with stomach discomfort, such as hiccups, bloating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chest tightness, etc. Since each disease manifests itself in different symptoms, if accompanied by chest tightness, heartburn, acid reflux, hiccups, etc., it may be an esophageal disease; if accompanied by empty stomach pain, fullness and hunger pain, sour hiccups, or even vomiting blood, it may be a gastric ulcer, but if there are hiccups, jaundice, fever and other symptoms, it may not be related to the stomach, but may be a gallbladder problem. Therefore, the symptoms associated with abdominal pain cannot be ignored.

What to pay attention to when you have stomach pain

Eat a light diet and eat less fatty, sweet and irritating foods, such as foods containing alcohol and spices. Be careful about food that is too sour, too sweet, too salty, too bitter, or too spicy, and do not have a preference for any of the five flavors. Patients who have a smoking habit should quit smoking.

Eat at regular times and in regular amounts. Patients with long-term stomach pain should have three meals a day or snacks on time, with reasonable intervals between them. Patients with acute stomach pain should try to eat small meals frequently and should eat less or no snacks to reduce the burden on the stomach.

The food should be soft, warm and cozy. It is best to cook by steaming, boiling, simmering and braising. Do not eat hard or rough food. When eating, take your time and chew the food thoroughly in your mouth, mix it with saliva, and then swallow it slowly. This will help digestion and recovery after illness.
