Corneal rupture

Corneal rupture

The cornea is mainly a transparent film in front of the eye. It is completely transparent and elliptical in shape for the entire eye. It is very sensitive and has very sensitive nerve endings. If foreign objects can touch the cornea, it will produce some unconscious protection of the eyes. Therefore, the main function of the cornea in daily life is that the sensory nerves are relatively rich, and the eyes can blink unconsciously.

In daily life, it has a bactericidal function to protect the cornea from external attack and bacterial infection. In life, there are some anatomy and some physiological pathologies of the cornea. Corneal rupture is mainly unconscious and may even cause very serious consequences.

The cornea has rich sensory nerves, which mainly reach the cornea from the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve through the ciliary nerve. If the eye is compared to a camera, the cornea is the lens of the camera, and the eyelids and tears are devices that protect the "lens".

Our eyelids will blink without our awareness, and every time we blink, tears will form a thin tear film on the surface of the cornea to protect the "lens". Since the cornea is transparent, there are no blood vessels on it. Therefore, the cornea mainly obtains nutrients from tears. If the nutrients contained in the tears are insufficient, the cornea will become dry and its transparency will decrease. The cornea also gets oxygen from the air, so many people feel their eyes are a little dry after waking up. The composition of tears is very similar to the liquid part of blood. Oily components such as cholesterol and lecithin are attached to the surface of the cornea to inhibit the evaporation of water. The enzyme called lysozyme has a bactericidal function and can protect the cornea from infected bacteria that come into contact with the outside air.

The cornea has three functions: 1. Refraction of light: When light enters the cornea from the air, it is refracted due to the different media, and works together with the lens to form an image of the object on the retina. The curvature of the lens of myopic patients changes and cannot form an image on the retina. One treatment method is to change the curvature of the corneal surface through laser surgery. 2. The function of protecting the contents of the eyeball and maintaining normal intraocular pressure: The inside of the eyeball is filled with liquid aqueous humor. If the cornea is damaged or ruptured, the aqueous humor will flow out and the internal structure of the eyeball will be damaged. 3. The cornea is the window through which light enters the eyeball. If the cornea is infected or damaged, it will cause corneal opacity, decreased or even disappearance of light transmittance, leading to blindness. This is why corneal transplantation can restore a person's sight.

The above is a detailed introduction to the cornea and the content of rupture repair. The cornea plays a very important role and has a bactericidal function. It can protect the cornea from being infected by bacteria that come into contact with the outside air. In life, we have some understanding of the anatomy of the cornea and some physiological and pathological changes. The main symptom of a ruptured cornea is that it becomes cloudy due to damage or trauma, and vision will drop sharply.
