Knee bloodletting therapy

Knee bloodletting therapy

If too much fluid or blood accumulates in a certain part of the human body, it will affect the normal operation of this part, and bloodletting therapy will be needed. If the synovium around the knee joint is damaged, it will produce more mucus, causing congestion in the area around the knee joint. In many traditional Chinese medicines, bloodletting from the knee joint is used to treat this condition, but does it really work?

The normal knee joint, under the influence of trauma, strain, rheumatism and cold, causes serious damage to the surrounding tissues and synovium of the knee joint, causing congestion, exudation and a large amount of effusion. After accumulation, the knee joint will become swollen, painful and inflamed, resulting in weakened knee joint mobility and stiffness. If treatment is not timely or inappropriate, the knee joint will become red, swollen, hot, painful, enlarged, cold, painful and shiny. The knee joint will become stiff and unable to flex or extend, causing lameness or inability to walk, seriously affecting normal life and physical health.

Traditional Chinese medicine treatment is effective

1. Acupuncture treatment: acupoints include bilateral Shenshu, bilateral Hegu, inner knee joint on the affected side, outer knee joint, Yanglingquan, Yinlingquan, Gongsun, Neiting, Liangqiu, Xuehai, Zusanli, Taihuan, and Sanyinjiao. Operation method: The patient is seated. After routine disinfection, acupuncture is performed in sequence according to the acupoints to tonify the kidney meridian and drain the spleen meridian. The acupoints are rotated daily and the needles are retained for 20 to 40 minutes. After one week, the swelling and pain began to subside, after two weeks the swelling and pain disappeared, and after three weeks the patient could walk freely.

2. Bloodletting therapy: On the basis of acupuncture treatment, adding bloodletting therapy twice a week will have a more obvious effect. The acupoints are the inner knee pit, outer knee pit, Weizhong, and the swollen and painful areas of the knee joint. Operation method: The patient sits down, and after disinfecting a large area of the swollen and painful knee joint, pierce 7 needles on an area about the size of a coin at each acupoint, leave the needles in for 20 to 40 minutes, and immediately remove the cupping jar when removing the needles. The effect will be apparent when blood beads as big as mung beans appear on the skin inside the cupping jar.

3. Moxibustion treatment: Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine treatment method. The acupoints used are Zusanli, Yanglingquan on the affected side, Sanyinjiao on the affected side, and Guanyuan. Operation method: The patient sits down, light the moxa stick, keep a certain distance between the moxa head and the acupoint on the skin, aim at the acupoint and press it once (do not touch it). At this time, the acupoint will feel like being pricked by a needle, and then lift it up quickly. Using this pecking method, repeatedly moxibustion each acupoint for 5 to 8 minutes will produce significant effects.

4. Kneeling on the knees and self-massage: A. Kneeling on the knees: After one week of acupuncture treatment, physical exercise is added. The patient kneels on the bed with the distance between the knees and the feet being two fists, the instep parallel to the bed surface, and slowly sits down to gradually reduce the angle between the thigh and the calf. Repeat this appropriately and gradually increase the amount of exercise. B. Self-massage of the knee joint: The patient sits down and rubs the Xuehai point and Liangqiu point with the base of the palm for 3 to 5 minutes, and rubs the inner knee point and outer knee point with the thumb and index finger for 3 to 5 minutes. Look for the tender points around the patella of the knee joint, gently rub for 3 to 5 minutes, and then pat the knee joint evenly until it becomes warm. By combining the above treatment methods, significant results will be seen after 2 to 3 courses of treatment.
