How to treat allergic neurodermatitis? What should I pay attention to?

Neurodermatitis is a serious disease but very annoying. The unbearable itching makes people unable to sleep at night. Patches of lichenified rashes seriously affect your image, and they can easily recur if you’re not careful, making it hard to guard against. So how should neurodermatitis be treated?

How to treat neurodermatitis?

The fundamental purpose of treatment is to relieve itching. It is important to avoid scratching, only in this way can we break the vicious cycle of "itching-scratching". There are many methods to relieve itching, and you can choose the appropriate method according to the condition of the disease and the size of the affected skin lesions.

1. Local treatment:

The first choice is glucocorticoid ointment and cream: such as the elosone, halometasone, betamethasone dipropionate ointment we usually use; if necessary, cover the topical medication with plastic wrap for about 2 hours for better results; if the skin lesions are severely thickened, local injection of glucocorticoids can be used for treatment, such as triamcinolone acetate injection, Diprosone injection, etc., most of which are repeated every 3-4 weeks.

2. Systemic treatment:

The first choice is antihistamines: that is, the anti-allergic drugs we often mention, such as loratadine (Claritin), levocetirizine hydrochloride, epinastine hydrochloride, etc.; if patients have neurasthenia and insomnia, they can choose sedative antihistamines, such as chlorpheniramine maleate (chlorpheniramine), ketotifen, doxepin, etc.; for patients with generalized pruritus accompanied by severe itching, you can try procaine intravenous blockade therapy.

3. Physical therapy:

For some patients with intractable itching who are resistant to local medications, superficial X-ray irradiation can be tried, which mainly utilizes the inhibitory effect of radiation on the sensory hypersensitivity of nerve endings, and can achieve good results clinically.

4. Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine:

Most of them require syndrome differentiation: in the early stage, the main symptoms are erythema and papules, accompanied by itching, which is a syndrome of wind-heat obstruction, and the treatment should be to clear away heat and dispel wind; later, the skin is denourished, the lesions appear as lichenoid plaques, and the surface is dry and scaly, which is a syndrome of blood deficiency and wind dryness, and the treatment should be to nourish blood and dispel wind.

In addition, local plum blossom needle acupuncture of the affected area can achieve the therapeutic effect by dredging the meridians and collaterals, harmonizing qi and blood, and reducing swelling and dispersing nodules. It should be done twice a week.

What issues should patients with neurodermatitis pay attention to in daily life?

Many patients hope to pursue a "radical cure" that can eradicate the disease completely and prevent it from recurring. But for neurodermatitis, this is a luxury. Therefore, to prevent the recurrence of neurodermatitis, we should pay attention to the following issues:

1. First of all, you must quit bad living habits and avoid the stimulation of spicy food.

2. Secondly, patients must relax, don’t be too fussy about everything, vent stress in time to reduce tension and anxiety.

3. Finally, pay attention to keeping the skin moisturized. Apply moisturizing products frequently to keep the skin moisturized, and avoid friction and scratching of susceptible areas.

If you do the above points and actively treat it, neurodermatitis may never bother you again in your life!
