Why do people suffer from schizophrenia? There are these reasons

Nowadays, schizophrenia is becoming more and more common. Schizophrenia is closely related to genetics. In addition, social factors and personal psychological factors are the culprits of schizophrenia. We should usually have a positive and optimistic attitude.

1 Neurobiological factors

① Neurobiochemical studies have shown that patients have multiple neurotransmitter dysfunctions, mainly involving dopamine, 5-hydroxytryptamine, and glutamate. Central dopamine levels increase, function becomes hyperactive, and traditional antipsychotic drugs are blockers of dopamine receptors in the central nervous system. Central serotonin levels are abnormal. In addition to having an antagonistic effect on dopamine receptors, new antipsychotic drugs also have an antagonistic effect on serotonin receptors. Central glutamate levels are low and function is insufficient. ② Neuroanatomy and neuroimaging studies showed that patients had brain tissue atrophy, ventricle enlargement and widening of sulci and gyri in the temporal lobe, frontal lobe and limbic system. ③ Viral infection during pregnancy, perinatal complications, adverse stress and physical illness in childhood are related to developmental defects of the nervous system and have a certain impact on the onset of schizophrenia.

2 Genetic factors

Genetic epidemiological surveys of large sample populations show that the prevalence among patients' relatives is several times higher than that of the general population, and the closer the blood relationship, the higher the prevalence. Molecular genetic studies have revealed susceptibility loci associated with schizophrenia. It is generally believed that schizophrenia may be a polygenic inheritance, and the onset of the disease is caused by the superposition of several genes.

3 Social psychological factors

Adverse life events, economic conditions, premorbid personality and other socio-psychological factors may play an inducing and promoting role in the onset of schizophrenia.

The cause of schizophrenia has not yet been fully elucidated, and some of the influencing factors that can be identified currently have no clear causal relationship with the disease. The most widely accepted view at present is that susceptibility and external adverse factors work together through internal biological factors to lead to the occurrence of disease.
