What are the benefits and functions of Omega 3 fish oil?

A large number of studies have found that eating fish (deep-sea cold-water fish are rich in omega-3) is extremely helpful for maintaining health and can significantly reduce the mortality rate of coronary heart disease. Therefore, supplementing with high-purity, high-content fish oil has become a necessity for human health. So what are the functions and effects of Omega 3 fish oil?

1. The role of EPA and DHA

EPA - Unblocks blood vessels: Helps keep blood vessels unobstructed, prevents blood clots, and prevents stroke or myocardial infarction; removes fat accumulated in the blood, prevents arteriosclerosis and prevents the occurrence of peripheral blood vessel blockage.

EPA is the main component of prostaglandins, which can maintain normal blood pressure and lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

3. Improve brain function and intelligence

The DHA component in deep-sea fish oil is another special unsaturated fatty acid, which is an indispensable material basis for the formation, development and operation of brain cells. Scientists have discovered that the "neuronal cells" in the brain contain a large amount of DHA, which makes it easier for the brain's neurotransmitters to convey correct messages. Therefore, the role of DHA is to promote and coordinate the conduction of neural circuits to maintain the normal functioning of brain cells, thereby enhancing concentration, memory, and attention.

Brown University and the University of Rhode Island in the United States recently published a large-scale clinical comparative study that lasted 8 years between fish oil supplementation and no supplementation. The fish oil supplementers had increased hippocampal and cerebral volumes, enhanced cognitive function, and reduced brain atrophy, while the control group had the opposite result, with significant brain atrophy (Figure 1A: Supplementation group, Figure 1B: Control group).

Fish oil can delay brain atrophy and prevent brain function decline, and is an essential supplement for the elderly.

4. Protect cardiovascular system and ensure smooth blood flow

Arteriosclerosis refers to the deposition of many brown-yellow fatty plaques on the inner walls of human arteries. On the one hand, it blocks the blood vessels, reducing blood flow and causing ischemia in the blood supply area. On the other hand, it makes the blood vessels hard, brittle and weakens their elasticity, leading to high blood pressure and damage to the blood vessel walls and bleeding. Therefore, the deposition and development of fatty plaques not only causes hypertension and atherosclerosis, but more importantly, it becomes the pathological basis of myocardial infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, and cerebral infarction, and is a time bomb in the blood vessels. Lipoprotein cholesterol is divided into high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL). High-density lipoprotein (HDL) helps lower blood cholesterol. Therefore, taking fish oil can not only lower blood lipids, but also prevent the occurrence of coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease.

5. Helps Fight Inflammation

EPA and DHA also have anti-inflammatory activity. When the body consumes too much omega-6 fatty acids (which are often found in large quantities in vegetable oils) and not enough omega-3 fatty acids, the body produces chemicals that cause an inflammatory response. EPA and DHA in deep-sea fish oil can balance the excess omega-6 fatty acids, so fish oil is often used to improve various inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, bronchial asthma, nephritis and diabetes.
