Can tendonitis heal on its own? How to treat

Clinically, many diseases can heal themselves, but some diseases require treatment to be cured. Tendonitis is a common clinical disease and there is basically no possibility of self-healing. Treatment must be taken for the problem of tendonitis. There are various treatment options, and the most suitable treatment method can be selected.

1. Tendonitis generally cannot heal itself and requires treatment. Ice compresses should be used in the acute phase, with the affected area applied for 20 minutes every few hours; the affected limb should be elevated and immobilized; for tendinitis of the upper limbs, a brace or plaster can be used to fix the affected area in a suitable functional position, and rest is the best way to relieve muscle tightness; for tendinitis in other parts of the body, an elastic bandage can be used to reduce edema. After the acute phase, develop an appropriate rehabilitation plan to improve muscle strength and restore range of motion.

2. Drug treatment. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can be used to relieve pain. For severe pain, local injection of steroid hormones can control inflammation and relieve pain. However, repeated steroid injections are not recommended because they can weaken the tendon and lead to tendon rupture.

3. Surgical treatment. For some patients, especially when adhesions occur, if the above treatments are ineffective, surgical treatment may be considered. The narrow tendon sheath is cut longitudinally and a small strip of the tendon sheath is removed, thereby eliminating the source of pain. Disadvantages: severe trauma, great pain, and long recovery period.

4. Physical therapy. Taking a massage bath can help increase body temperature and improve blood circulation. If tendonitis occurs in the knee area, you can apply a warm, wet towel to it. In recent years, there have been reports of using ultrasound therapy to treat tendinitis, especially tendinitis accompanied by calcification, but its efficacy still needs further confirmation.
