What causes insomnia?

Insomnia is experienced by many people, which is mainly manifested in difficulty falling asleep, poor sleep quality and other aspects. It is a mental problem. As for what causes insomnia, in addition to some diseases, psychological factors are also a cause of insomnia, such as high stress.

1. Disease

Physical illness is actually a factor that causes insomnia. Diseases such as heart disease, kidney disease, asthma, ulcer disease, arthritis, bone and joint disease, gastrointestinal disease, and high blood pressure can all cause insomnia.

2. Transient insomnia

We’ve all had a night or two of poor sleep, followed by a day or two of fatigue. Many reasons such as excessive stress, excessive excitement, and environmental changes can lead to temporary insomnia. But sleep will return to normal soon and daytime conditions will return to normal. This temporary insomnia generally does not require treatment.

3. Short-term insomnia

Short-term insomnia refers to insomnia that lasts from a few days to a few weeks. Common causes of short-term insomnia include: continuous pressure from school, work and family life, or the sudden death of relatives or friends. In this type of insomnia, people can usually return to normal sleep after adjusting to stress or feelings of loss; sometimes intervention treatment may be needed to help restore sleep.

4. Environmental reasons

A large part of the reason for insomnia among modern people is the environment, which can cause chemical reactions in the physiology. A simpler way to put it is that strong indoor light, ambient noise, inappropriate temperature, etc. are all external environmental factors that cause insomnia. Of course, these are all reasons why some people are more sensitive and have poor adaptability, and they care more about things.

5. Psychological reasons

Modern people are under great pressure in life, and often unconsciously experience emotions such as anxiety, impatience, and uneasiness. These emotions often come from life, work, and study. We have to face them and are powerless to resist them. Psychological changes can seriously lead to dysfunction of the nervous system, causing functional disorders in the brain and even insomnia.
