What to do if your eyes are dry and red?

Many people don’t know what to do when they find their eyes are dry and have red bloodshot. This condition is probably caused by using the eyes for a long time without getting enough rest. In this case, you can apply cold compress to the eyes to constrict blood vessels and relieve the red blood streak phenomenon.

1. Rest your eyes and apply cold compress

Many times we often work overtime or face the screen for a long time, or read in an environment with too strong or too dark light. These can cause great harm to the eyes, make the eyes overly tired, cause blood vessels to dilate, and cause red bloodshot eyes. Apply a cold towel to your eyes for 10 minutes to constrict blood vessels and relieve red bloodshot eyes. In normal times, we should reduce the time we spend facing the screen and use our eyes properly. After working or studying for an hour, we must close our eyes and rest for 10 minutes. Then, look into the distance and blink more often, etc., which can relieve eye fatigue.

2. Pay attention to hygiene

The appearance of red bloodshot eyes is mostly caused by infectious eye diseases. When the eyes are infected by various pathogens, it will cause various types of conjunctivitis. These eye inflammations cause the blood vessels in the eyes to rupture, resulting in eye congestion and red bloodshot symptoms, and are also accompanied by dry, itchy and painful eyes. When an eye infection occurs, you should go to the ophthalmology department of a regular hospital for examination and treatment in time. Do not rub your eyes with your hands, otherwise it will aggravate the eye infection.

3. Avoid using your eyes too long

Dry eyes are also a cause of red bloodshot eyes. Dry eyes, also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca, are caused by decreased stability of the tear film and lack of sufficient tears to moisturize the eyes. Common symptoms of dry eye syndrome include dry eyes, itching, red bloodshot eyes, foreign body sensation, pain and burning sensation, photophobia, etc. This condition can lead to corneal softening and perforation over time, and affect vision. Under the guidance of a doctor, choose non-irritating artificial tear eye drops, silicone eye masks and other treatments. In normal times, you should avoid using your eyes for too long and blink more often to secrete more tears and relieve dry eyes.
