What are the symptoms of renal cysts? There are six main symptoms

After a renal cyst occurs, patients generally do not feel obvious discomfort. Some patients experience pain and discomfort in the waist and abdomen. This symptom is not easy to attract attention and will be ignored as being too tired. Some patients may also have symptoms such as abdominal lumps.

01. Abdominal mass: Sometimes it is the main reason for patients to seek medical treatment. 60%-80% of patients can feel enlarged kidneys. Generally speaking, the larger the kidney mass, the worse the kidney function.

02. Hypertension: Cysts compress the kidneys, causing renal ischemia, increased renin secretion, and high blood pressure.

03. Proteinuria: Generally the amount is not much and will not exceed 2g in 24 hours of urine.

04. Hematuria: It may manifest as microscopic hematuria or macroscopic hematuria, and the onset is cyclical. The cause of bleeding is that there are many arteries under the cyst wall. Due to increased pressure or combined infection, the blood vessels in the cyst wall are over-stretched and ruptured and bleed.

05. Discomfort or pain in the waist and abdomen: The reason is that the enlarged and expanded kidneys increase the tension of the renal capsule, stretch the renal pedicle, or cause pressure on adjacent organs. In addition, polycystic kidneys cause the kidneys to contain a lot of water, making them heavy, falling and pulling, which can also cause lower back pain. The pain is characterized by dull pain, fixed on one side or both sides, radiating to the lower part and lower back. If there is intracystic bleeding or secondary infection, the pain will suddenly increase. If the urinary tract is blocked by stones or blood clots after bleeding, renal colic may occur.

06. Decreased renal function: Due to the space occupation and compression of the cyst, the normal renal tissue is significantly reduced and the renal function progressively declines.

Most renal cysts have no symptoms. Physical examination is usually normal, and occasionally a mass can be felt or percussed in the kidney area. If the cyst becomes infected, there may be tenderness in the flank and abdomen. When the cyst is huge, a lump may appear in the waist and abdomen. Some patients may develop symptoms due to the cyst itself, increased pressure within the cyst, infection, etc.
