What is fog liver disease

Hepatitis E, like hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C, is a type of viral hepatitis. Because it is relatively rare, many people don't know much about it. When blood containing the hepatitis E virus is transfused intravenously, the recipient will be infected with hepatitis E. In addition, water sources contaminated with feces can also lead to the occurrence of this disease. Furthermore, food contamination is also a major factor in the outbreak of this disease. People often develop jaundice, fever, and nausea and the urge to vomit.

1. Concept

This disease is mainly seen in some developing countries in Asia and Africa. Generally, sporadic cases are the main type of disease in developed countries, while epidemic cases are the main type of disease in developing countries. Since 1980, there have been several epidemics in Xinjiang, China, and sporadic hepatitis E has been reported in other places, accounting for about 10% of acute sporadic hepatitis. Its epidemic characteristics are similar to hepatitis A and are transmitted through the fecal-oral route. Water-borne epidemics are the most common, with a few being food-borne outbreaks or transmission through daily life contact.

2. Clinical manifestations

The incubation period ranges from 10 to 60 days, with an average of 40 days. The onset is generally acute and jaundice is common. Half of them had fever, accompanied by fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and pain in the liver area. About 1/3 have joint pain. Common symptoms of cholestasis include itchy skin and lighter stool color, which are more obvious than those of hepatitis A. Most patients have hepatomegaly, but splenomegaly is less common. In most patients, jaundice disappears in about 2 weeks, and the course of the disease is 6 to 8 weeks. It generally does not develop into a chronic disease. Pregnant women infected with HEV are seriously ill and are prone to liver failure, especially in the late pregnancy when the mortality rate is high and miscarriage and stillbirth may be seen. The cause may be related to low serum immunoglobulin levels. HBsAg-positive people who are super-infected with HEV will have their condition aggravated and easily develop into acute severe hepatitis.

3. Hazards

Hepatitis E is caused by infection with the hepatitis E virus. Similar to other viral liver diseases, such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C, if not treated promptly and effectively, it will cause further damage to liver function, leading to abnormal liver function, liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and even the risk of liver cancer. Therefore, patients must pay enough attention.

IV. Treatment

Proper rest and proper nutrition are the main focus, supplemented by selective use of medication. You should avoid drinking alcohol, overwork and taking liver-damaging drugs.

1. Rest

Strict bed rest is the most important in the early stages. Once symptoms improve significantly, you can gradually increase your activity level without feeling tired. Treatment should continue until symptoms disappear and the isolation period is complete. After 1 to 3 months of rest, gradually resume work.

2. Diet

It is advisable to eat light food that suits the patient's taste and is easy to digest. It should contain a variety of vitamins, sufficient calories and an appropriate amount of protein, and fat should not be restricted too strictly.

5. Prevention

Same as hepatitis A. The main comprehensive measures taken are to cut off the transmission routes. To prevent water-borne transmission, it is mainly necessary to protect water sources and prevent fecal management; it is also important to pay attention to food hygiene, improve sanitary facilities and pay attention to personal hygiene.
