What causes eye twitching?

People need to understand that eye twitching is an unavoidable disease and most current treatments are not perfect. Eye twitching is caused by not paying attention to eye health. Patients should strictly control their diet and lifestyle. Eye tremors cause patients to lose confidence in life and have many negative effects on their eyes. Those who wish to avoid eye tremors should consult an ophthalmologist for comprehensive treatment as soon as possible. Next, let’s introduce what causes eye tremors?

1. Jumping type: The eyeball moves back and forth at obviously different speeds. After the eyeball slowly turns to one direction to a certain extent, it suddenly returns in a jerking motion. Therefore, this type of tremor has chronic and rapid phases. The chronic phase is the physiological phase, the rapid phase is the corrective movement of the slow phase, and the direction of the rapid phase is the direction of the nystagmus. The rapid phase is related to the cause of the disease.

2. Swinging type: The eyeball swings like a pendulum, without fast or slow phases. Its speed and amplitude are equal. It is more common in patients with binocular amaurosis and amblyopia.

3. Forms of tremor There are two forms of nystagmus: impulsive and oscillatory.

Impulsive nystagmus is dirhythmic, with the eyeballs moving to the sides at unequal speeds, rotating to one side with a slow phase and then rotating to the opposite direction with a fast phase. The fast phase is usually used as the direction of nystagmus. Pendulum nystagmus is a swing of the eyeball from the midpoint to the sides, with equal amplitude and speed, without any distinction between fast and slow.

4. Direction of tremor: The directions of nystagmus include horizontal, vertical, rotational, oblique and mixed, among which horizontal is the most common.

5. Conscious symptoms of nystagmus: Congenital nystagmus has no conscious symptoms because the gaze reflex has not yet developed; acquired nystagmus may develop conscious symptoms after adulthood.

a. Visual impairment due to poor development of the macula or confusion caused by tremor is not conducive to macula fixation, and the fixation reflex cannot develop.

b. Sense of object movement: External objects have a sense of turbulence, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. Stationary objects are often perceived as moving back and forth continuously.

c . Diplopia Central nystagmus often causes nystagmus-induced diplopia.

d. Compensatory head position and head rotation nystagmus is often accompanied by congenital cataracts or albinism, with obvious visual impairment. The tremor is mostly in the form of swinging and horizontal tremor with equal speed. Acquired tremors are often vertical or rotational tremors.

e. Central nystagmus is a nystagmus caused by inflammation, tumor, degeneration, trauma, or vascular disease that affects the vestibule or its connection pathway with the cerebellum. It is usually impulsive or horizontal nystagmus, and there are generally no symptoms of vertigo, but sometimes nystagmus-induced diplopia may occur.

f. Congenital idiopathic nystagmus is mostly impulsive or horizontal, more obvious when fixating, and has no obvious organic lesions. The decrease in visual acuity is mostly caused by object-image tremor, so the tremor reduction phenomenon may appear in a certain area in the slow phase direction, that is, the visual acuity here can be significantly improved when the eyes are in the resting position.
