What is the latest treatment for myasthenia gravis?

What is the latest treatment for myasthenia gravis?

Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease that can affect people of all ages and causes symptoms of muscle fatigue. So early treatment is important. The latest treatment for myasthenia gravis should still be based on drug treatment, while also paying attention to the repair of nerve tissue.

1. Drug therapy:

Patients must take medications scientifically and accurately according to the doctor's instructions, and go to the hospital for regular follow-up visits to effectively control the progression of the disease.

2. Nerve tissue repair therapy:

Neural tissue repair therapy is a treatment method that uses neural factors to replace or repair damaged nerve cells and nerve tissues. It is non-dependent, has no toxic side effects or adverse reactions, and can enhance the patient's body immunity. It fundamentally solves the problem of stubborn and incurable neurological diseases. Patients' condition generally improves significantly after receiving this therapy.

3. Physical therapy:

Patients are encouraged to take the initiative to exercise, strengthen their physical fitness, move their joints, and enhance their resistance. Warm baths, massage, and other methods can be used to relax muscles, promote blood circulation, and achieve a combination of work and rest.

4. Thymus treatment:

For patients with poor drug efficacy accompanied by thymic enlargement and crisis attacks, thymectomy may be considered. However, the effect is better in young (under 35 years old) female patients with a short disease course (within 5 years). Complete remission usually occurs 2-3 years after surgery, with an efficacy of 80%. However, the efficacy of simple eye type is poor. For patients with thymoma, surgery should be performed as early as possible to prevent malignant transformation. For the elderly and frail patients or patients with malignant thymoma who are not suitable for surgery, thymus radiotherapy can be performed using deep X-rays, megavoltage X-rays or cobalt 60 as the radiation source. The effectiveness rate is about 70%. The shorter the course of the disease (within 3 years) and the younger the age (under 40 years old), the better the effect. Strict control should be exercised for children.

5. Blood therapy:

Plasma exchange therapy can be used when conditions permit: you can also try high-titer immunoglobulin 100-200 mg/kg, diluted with 500 ml of normal saline and given by intravenous drip once a week for a total of 3-5 times. However, immunoglobulin is antigenic and there are reports of allergic encephalitis caused by intramuscular injection of immunoglobulin, so it should not be abused.

6. Treatment of Myasthenia Gravis with Traditional Chinese Medicine

In terms of treatment, Chinese medicine mainly uses acupuncture and Chinese medicine for treatment, especially acupuncture is the most effective treatment for myasthenia gravis. In clinical practice, to treat ptosis, acupuncture is performed on the patient's Yangbai and Touwei points to stimulate the nerves in the upper eye socket and achieve cure. For the treatment of medullary nerve paralysis and weakness, the double-penetration method of Yamen acupoint and Fengchi acupoint can achieve good results.
