(2) Diet hurts the stomach Symptoms: pain in the epigastric region, distension and refusal to apply pressure, belching and acid regurgitation, or vomiting of undigested food with a foul smell, pain relieved after vomiting, loss of appetite, uncomfortable bowel movements, flatulence and slight relief after bowel movements, thick and greasy tongue coating, and slippery pulse. Treatment method: Digest food, relieve stagnation, soothe the stomach and relieve pain. Prescription: Baohe Pills with modifications. Commonly used medicines: Shenqu, hawthorn, radish seed, poria, pinellia, tangerine peel, and forsythia. (III) Liver Qi Invading the Stomach Symptoms: Distension and pain in the epigastric region, pain extending to the flanks, pain that increases or worsens when one is upset, pain relieved by belching or flatulence, chest tightness and belching, long sighs, constipation, thin white tongue coating, and wiry pulse. Treatment method: Soothe the liver and relieve depression, regulate qi and relieve pain. Prescription: Chaihu Shugan San with modifications. Commonly used medicines: Bupleurum, Peony, Chuanxiong, Curcuma, Cyperus, Tangerine Peel, Citrus aurantium, Citrus hand, and Licorice. (IV) Damp-heat blockage Symptoms: urgent pain in the stomach, abdominal distension and burning sensation, dry and bitter mouth, thirst without desire to drink, heaviness and fatigue, poor appetite and nausea, yellow urine, constipation, yellow and greasy tongue coating, and slippery and rapid pulse. Treatment method: Clear away dampness and heat, regulate qi and harmonize the stomach. Prescription: Qingzhong Decoction with modifications. Commonly used medicines: Coptis chinensis, Gardenia jasminoides, processed Pinellia ternata, Poria cocos, Cardamomum villosum, Tangerine peel, and Licorice. |
