What is the difference between Panax ginseng and American ginseng?

As a nourishing tonic, ginseng has certain health benefits for the human body. To a certain extent, it can effectively prevent certain diseases, enhance one's immunity, and play a certain positive and effective role on the human body. At the same time, American ginseng is also loved by many friends as a tonic. So, what is the difference between ginseng and American ginseng?

Ginseng has the effects of tonifying Qi, consolidating deficiency, restoring Yang, promoting the production of body fluids, improving intelligence and calming the mind. It is mostly used clinically to treat fatigue, poor appetite, abdominal distension and loose stools caused by spleen deficiency; shortness of breath and wheezing caused by lung deficiency; palpitations, insomnia and forgetfulness caused by heart deficiency, as well as critical symptoms caused by qi deficiency, shortness of breath, fatigue, sweating, cold limbs, and weak pulse.

Moreover, American ginseng can nourish yin and produce body fluid while replenishing qi, and is suitable for patients with long-term illness and deficiency of both yin and yang. It is often used to treat cough, hemoptysis, night sweats, thirst, shortness of breath, lack of body fluid, bone steaming and fatigue fever, or long-term illness caused by deficiency of lung yin, or excessive loss of body fluid and other symptoms.

At the same time, ginseng is warm and tastes bitter. Warmth can replenish yang and dispel cold, while bitterness can dry out dampness, and dampness can damage yang. Therefore, drying dampness also has a yang-enhancing effect. American ginseng is cool in nature, and coolness can clear away heat. The combination of sweetness and coolness can not only clear away heat and nourish yin, but also promote fluid production and quench thirst. Ginseng replenishes Qi and tends to assist Yang; American ginseng replenishes Qi and tends to nourish Yin. Ginseng is better than American ginseng in replenishing qi, while American ginseng is better than ginseng in clearing away heat and promoting body fluid.

Ginseng and American ginseng are both roots of the plant genus Panax in the Araliaceae family. Ginseng is a precious traditional Chinese medicine in my country with reliable efficacy and is a top-grade tonic. American ginseng is native to the United States and Canada and was introduced to my country in recent years. It is good at replenishing qi and nourishing yin. Since the two belong to different plants of the same family and genus, their chemical compositions are similar, but their uses and effects are still different.
