How to Survive a Salicylic Acid Breakout

How to Survive a Salicylic Acid Breakout

Salicylic acid is a skin care product. Using salicylic acid can solve various problems on the face, such as exfoliating and promoting skin metabolism. However, many people will experience various adverse reactions while using salicylic acid, acne being one of them. In fact, acne breakouts are not caused by salicylic acid, but salicylic acid accelerates the acne breakout process. Below, we will introduce you to the relevant knowledge of salicylic acid in detail!

1. Why does using salicylic acid cause acne breakouts?

The reason for acne breakouts is that salicylic acid is working to unclog the pores and remove the oil and dirt in the pores. In other words, even if you don't use salicylic acid, these pimples will still break out, it's just a matter of time. Because the pores are already blocked, the skin can't excrete normally, and the result is acne outbreaks. Salicylic acid only speeds up this process, it doesn't increase acne.

2. What to do if acne breaks out?

1. For oily skin with strong sebum secretion, avoid excessive cleansing. After cleansing, pay attention to proper hydration to maintain water-oil balance

2. Try not to touch the pimples on your face with your hands, as this can easily irritate the face;

3. Eat a light diet, avoid spicy foods, and avoid excessive drinking and smoking.

4. Develop good living habits, exercise moderately, maintain a regular work and rest schedule, drink plenty of water, and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.

5. Get enough sleep and relax to avoid hormonal imbalance caused by rising liver fire

6. Try to avoid using too many skin care products in daily life.

3. Precautions for using salicylic acid

1. There are many kinds of exfoliating skin care products on the market, such as A acid, retinol (aldehyde), fruit acid, salicylic acid, and even azelaic acid, all of which have the effect of exfoliating and promoting skin metabolism. These exfoliating products should not be used at the same time.

2. When the skin is fragile or allergic, such as sunburn, itching, stinging, peeling, etc., it is not suitable to use salicylic acid products, which will cause excessive irritation or burns.

3. Exfoliation will reduce the protective power of epidermal cells, so more attention should be paid to the use of moisturizing and sunscreen.

4. For sensitive or seborrheic skin that needs exfoliation, it is best to choose less irritating salicylic acid or lactone gluconic acid, which will cause less burden to the skin.
