What is the effective treatment for paronychia?

Paronychia causes great trouble to many patients, so the correct treatment method should be adopted. In the early stage, hot compress, physical therapy and external application can be adopted. If the condition is serious and has a tendency to suppuration, surgical treatment can be performed. We should also pay attention to developing good hygiene habits in life.

1. Treatment policy

In the early stage, hot compress, physical therapy, external application and other measures are adopted, and iodine amine or antibiotics are applied. Pus formation can be drained by incision. If pus accumulates under the nail bed, the nail should be removed.

2. Symptomatic treatment

In the early stages, you can use treatments such as soaking the affected finger in hot water or hot compresses, applying ointments, physical therapy, and raising the affected limb, which can generally resolve the symptoms.

3. Surgical treatment

If there is pus, a longitudinal incision can be made at the nail groove for drainage. When the infection has spread to the subcutaneous area around the nail base, a longitudinal incision can be made in the nail grooves on both sides, the epithelial sheet on the nail root can be turned up, the root of the nail can be removed, and a small piece of vaseline gauze or latex sheet can be placed for drainage. If pus has accumulated under the nail bed, the nail should be removed or the nail above the abscess cavity should be trimmed. When removing nails, be careful to avoid damaging the nail bed to prevent deformities of the new nails in the future.

4. Daily care

Develop good hygiene habits and do not remove hangnails around the nails at will. Once hangnails appear, cut them with scissors and avoid removing them forcefully. Nails should not be cut too short. If there are minor wounds on the fingers, you can apply iodine tincture and then bandage them with sterile gauze to avoid infection. Pay attention to the care of your fingers at ordinary times. Apply some Vaseline or skin care cream after washing your hands and before going to bed to enhance the antibacterial ability of the skin around the nail groove.

5. Diet adjustment

It is advisable to eat light food, eat more fruits and vegetables, balance meals reasonably, and pay attention to adequate nutrition.
