What is the treatment for otolithiasis?

Many friends have not heard of the disease called otolithiasis. In fact, otolithiasis is caused by the falling of otoliths on the otolith membrane. The otolith will be like a free substance in the liquid and it is easy to change its position. This will easily touch the patient's hair cells or nerves, causing the patient to experience dizziness, so early treatment is needed. The more common and effective way to treat otolithiasis is to use repositioning techniques, which can be completed in a few minutes and will not cause any sequelae. When otolithiasis occurs, professional treatment is required and do not treat it yourself.

Otolith disease, also known as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, refers to the otoliths on the otolith membrane falling off due to pathogenic factors and swimming in the endolymphatic fluid of the inner ear. When the human head position changes, the position of the semicircular canals also changes. The sunken otoliths will move with the flow of fluid, thereby stimulating the semicircular canal hair cells and causing dizziness. There are many causes of otolithiasis, mainly genetic factors, endocrine disorders, development of bony labyrinth cysts, and autoimmune factors.

Causes

Otolithiasis

1. Genetic factors: Many direct ancestors and descendants of patients with otosclerosis have the same disease, and about 54% have a family history. Some people believe that it is autosomal dominant or recessive inheritance, and abnormal genes can be found in more than half of the cases.

2. Endocrine disorder factors: This disease is more common in puberty, with a higher incidence in women. Pregnancy, childbirth and menopause can accelerate the progression of the disease, and it is believed to be related to hormone levels.

3. Factors affecting the development of the bony labyrinth cyst: The bony labyrinth cyst is fully developed when humans are born, except for a defect in the development and ossification process left in the endogenous cartilage layer at the anterior edge of the vestibule, which is called the anterior fenestrae. There are fibrous connective tissue bundles and cartilage tissue in the fissure, which may continue to exist or ossify in adulthood to produce otosclerosis lesions. The otosclerosis lesions seen clinically and in temporal bone pathology also often start from here.

Treatment of otolithiasis

If you have otolithiasis, there is no need to be nervous, because the main method of treating otolithiasis is a particularly magical repositioning technique that can be solved by a professional doctor in a few minutes. After the otolithiasis is reduced, do not stay in one posture, but exercise more. This will help the absorption of the otoliths and the restoration of balance function.

In order to avoid the occurrence of otolithiasis, experts recommend using a pillow of appropriate height in daily life and avoiding looking down at the phone or playing games for long periods of time. Otherwise, it will lead to cervical spondylosis, further causing problems with brain blood supply and inducing otolithiasis. Smoking can cause spasms in the capillaries in the ear, leading to insufficient blood supply to the inner ear and inducing otolithiasis.
