What causes the inability to open the mouth?
The mouth is a general term for people's oral cavity, lips and other tissues. The mouth is very important to people. It is the only entrance for eating and plays a key role in people's health. Mouth problems are also issues that cannot be ignored in modern life. They have a great impact on patients. For example, being unable to open the mouth is a common symptom. Let's take a look at what causes the inability to open the mouth?

The main functions of the temporomandibular joint are to participate in chewing, pronunciation, swallowing and facial expression. Temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome is one of the common diseases in the oral and maxillofacial region. It is common in young and middle-aged people, with the highest incidence rate among those aged 20 to 35 years. It usually occurs on one side, but sometimes it can gradually affect both sides. Temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome generally has a long course of illness and often recurs. It is mostly a functional disorder, but may also involve joint structure disorder or organic damage, so it should be taken seriously and treated early.

1. Causes (1) Psychological factors: Clinically, patients with temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome often have symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, mental tension, excitement and insomnia. (2) Occlusal relationship: Most patients have obvious occlusal disorders, such as interference, premature cusp contact, severe lockjaw, deep overbite, most posterior teeth missing, excessive surface wear, etc. (3) Excessive load on the joints: Frequent chewing of hard foods, grinding of teeth at night, and clenching of teeth when nervous can overload the temporomandibular joints and lead to the occurrence of this disease. (4) Unilateral chewing habit: Unilateral chewing habit will cause uneven movement of the joints on both sides and affect the development of the jaws and the balance of muscle strength on both sides. Long-term uncomfortably distorted mouth habits can easily lead to temporomandibular joint dysfunction.

(5) Trauma, excessive mouth opening when yawning, sudden cold stimulation, poor sitting posture and dental diseases can also cause damage to the temporomandibular joint, surrounding muscles and ligaments and lead to the disease. (6) Malnutrition, endocrine disorders, etc. are also related to the occurrence of this disease.
