What causes headache after nap?

Some people will find that they have a headache after a nap. The most common reason is that they sleep too long. Generally speaking, it is best to sleep for less than half an hour in the afternoon. If you sleep too long, it will often lead to insufficient blood supply to the brain, causing headaches. It is also related to improper sleeping posture. Some people may also suffer from this phenomenon if they sleep on their stomachs or take a nap at a desk.

What causes headache after nap?

1. Or sleeping too long. Generally, you don’t need to sleep too long at noon, 20 to 20 minutes is enough. If you sleep too long, your brain will be temporarily lacking in oxygen, and you will have a headache when you wake up. This is mainly due to too long a period of shallow sleep. Under normal circumstances, human sleep is rhythmic, with deep sleep and light sleep alternating repeatedly until waking up. Generally speaking, the first half of sleep is mostly deep sleep, while the second half is mostly light sleep. When people enter the light sleep stage, the blood flow to the brain increases, and when the blood vessels dilate, the nerves distributed in the blood vessels will be stretched and stimulated. It is very likely that a dull vascular headache is caused by this stimulation. However, when people sleep for a long time, deep sleep does not increase, but only prolongs the time of light sleep. Therefore, the nerves are continuously stimulated due to being in light sleep for a long time, which can easily cause people to wake up with a headache or feel a headache after waking up. So, don't think that sleeping longer can improve your energy.

2. Or sleeping in an improper posture, such as sleeping on the table, will reduce the blood supply to the head, causing symptoms of brain ischemia and hypoxia such as dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, etc. after waking up. Try not to sleep on your stomach during lunch break. If conditions permit, it is best to lie on the bed. Even if that is not possible, it is best for office workers to sit on a chair with their head leaning on the back seat, stretching their knees, and placing their feet on a lower platform. This sleeping position is the most suitable. If this is difficult to implement, sleeping in a chair is also a good option. 3. Or you may catch a cold, for example, you may accidentally catch a cold when sleeping with the window open or the air conditioner on. The low temperature may cause the cerebral blood vessels to constrict and reduce blood flow, which may cause headaches. Therefore, no matter how hot the weather is, you should cover your abdomen with a towel or quilt when taking a nap to prevent cold air from entering. Also, do not take a nap in a place with a draft or air vents, and do not set the air conditioner too low no matter how hot it is, and do not sleep facing the air conditioner vent.

4. Either you are woken up too quickly or you wake up too quickly, and your body cannot keep up with the energy needs of the brain, resulting in a headache after waking up. For example, when you sleep, don’t put your mobile phone or alarm clock near your head. Sometimes, being woken up by the noise during sleep can cause a headache. 5. Or getting up too quickly. If you sleep in bed and have a headache after waking up, it may be because you get up too quickly. Getting up suddenly will cause postural blood pressure. The effect of gravity will cause the cerebral blood pressure to drop too quickly, causing a headache, dizziness, and even blacking out. 6. Or maybe the headache problem is due to your own physical condition. For example, if you already have a headache problem and you feel a little dazed and weak after just waking up, you are more likely to have a headache.
