What is thyroid enlargement?

The thyroid gland is a gland that everyone has. It is located in the neck of the human body. If there is a problem with the thyroid gland, it can be seen on the surface. For example, if the thyroid gland is enlarged, the neck will become larger, and so on. There are many problems with the thyroid gland, and they are all caused by various reasons. The thyroid gland may increase in size. Many people do not understand what this is. So what is the enlargement of the thyroid gland?

Thyroid nodules are a general term for lumps within the thyroid gland and are one of the most common thyroid diseases in endocrinology.

The onset of thyroid nodules is related to environmental factors and immune regulation defects. It is one of the specific organ autoimmune diseases, mainly anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (TGA) and anti-thyroid microsomal antibodies (MCA). In a small number of patients, fluorescent immunofluorescence can detect two other colloid antibodies and cell surface antibodies. There is T cell and B cell infiltration in the thyroid tissue. Thyroid nodules are related to genetic factors.

One is the swelling caused by hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. Judging from your symptoms, hyperthyroidism cannot be ruled out. Drugs can only provide temporary relief and control but cannot completely cure the condition. Over time, they can damage the liver and kidneys and cause a decrease in white blood cells. Suggestions: Experts remind of the following dietary precautions so that more patients can better understand and pay attention to their condition. Experts remind: Do not take too many or overdose of drugs and foods that contain goiter-causing substances; after entering puberty or when pregnant, the body's need for iodine increases, and the usual amount of iodine consumed is insufficient. You should eat iodine-rich foods such as kelp, jellyfish, seaweed, moss, mussels, anchovies, hairy clams, scallops, razor clams, hairtail, yellow croaker, pomfret, eyefish, dried shrimp, etc.; if necessary, give intramuscular injections of iodized oil for prevention. Experts also said: For simple goiter, prevention should be the main approach. In areas where endemic goiter is prevalent, iodized salt should be used. Potassium iodide or potassium iodate should be added to salt with a concentration of one hundred thousandth to one millionth to ensure that each person consumes 100 to 200 micrograms of iodine per day. Of course, regular consumption of iodine-rich seafood, such as kelp, seaweed, and various marine fish, is also very helpful for goiter. At the same time, patients with goiter should also pay attention to their eating habits. If they have been eating large amounts of cabbage, radish, and soy foods for a long time, they should change their eating habits and try to mix a variety of vegetables.

Simple goiter is a goiter with normal thyroid function. It is a compensatory goiter caused by iodine deficiency, iodine excess, etc. that leads to goiter substances or related enzyme defects. It is not accompanied by obvious hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, so it is also called non-toxic goiter. No treatment is required.
