What to do with ankle gout

What to do with ankle gout

Gout is quite common in our daily life. There are many causes of gout. For example, trauma and long-term high-pressure life may cause gout. In addition, diet is also an important cause of gout. Gout in the ankle area often leads to inconvenience in movement. At this time, regular treatment must be carried out in time, and care should be strengthened in life, especially in terms of diet.

What to do with ankle gout

1. Conventional treatment

Many doctors recommend taking oral ibuprofen (available over the counter and by prescription) or other anti-inflammatory drugs. Low-dose aspirin (which may also be given to patients for other reasons) should not be used continuously because it delays the secretion of uric acid. In severe or chronic cases, injections of the hormone corticosteroids into the affected joint can help reduce pain and inflammation. However, some hormones such as hydrocortisone may cause side effects in some patients and must be used under the guidance of a professor. In order to promote the excretion of uric acid during long-term treatment, probenecid and sulfacyclovir can be used. However, like other drugs for treating gout, there will be some adverse reactions when used in combination with other drugs. Patients with blood diseases, ulcer diseases and kidney diseases should use it with caution. In many cases, short-term treatment with the right medication can permanently resolve the problem. However, because of the possibility of relapse, chronic gout patients should use low doses of drugs for a long time, and sometimes even for life.

2. Adjuvant therapy

Adjunctive therapy can relieve pain and inflammation in the acute phase, and long-term treatment can then control excess uric acid production.

3. Acupressure

Of the acupoints used to relieve gout pain, most are located near the tired foot: Taibai, on the spleen meridian of the foot, is located behind the metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe; 42, on the stomach meridian of the foot, is located in the center of the top of the arch; and Xingjian, on the liver meridian of the foot, is located behind the space between the big toe and the second toe. Press each acupoint for 60 seconds. If the pain persists, you can also press the other two acupoints at the two back corners of the big toe nail.

4. Nutrition and diet

Generally speaking, gout is more common in people who like to eat meat and animal fat, and less common in vegetarians. For people with a genetic tendency to gout, in order to prevent the occurrence of gout, the diet generally limits red meat (beef, pork), and its extracts such as gravy and broth; yeast and other fermented foods; animal offal such as liver, pancreas and kidney; shellfish and some canned fish, such as sardines and herring. Many authors report that eating fresh or canned cherries has a good effect in treating the pain of chronic rheumatism, 225g per day, or drinking cherry juice. Other strawberry berries and other berries have similar effects.
