We all know that the human knee is an important joint in human activities. Whether squatting or sitting, the cooperation of the knee is required to proceed smoothly. Moreover, the knee joint is also very susceptible to rheumatic diseases. Some people damage their knees due to excessive force or strenuous exercise. Then when you press the inside of the right knee, you feel very painful. What's going on? The knee, commonly known as the knee, is the connecting part between the upper and lower legs. The main internal structures of the knee are the meniscus and four ligaments. The meniscus is a crescent-shaped piece of fibrous cartilage tissue that pads the connection between the lower end of the femur and the upper end of the tibia inside the knee. Its function is to cushion the vibration of the knee joint and prevent direct friction between the two bones. Additionally, it is supported by four major ligaments. Two of them are on both sides of the knee, called the medial collateral ligament and the lateral collateral ligament, and their main function is to prevent the knee axis from dislocating; the other two ligaments are distributed in the front and back of the knee, called the anterior cruciate ligament and the posterior cruciate ligament, and their function is to prevent the knee from displacing forward and backward. The knees are not among the most commonly injured parts of the body, but they can be the weakest. When talking about knee problems, we need to have an idea. First of all, the structure. The thigh bone or femur and the tibia and fibula of the calf, as well as the kneecap, also known as the patella, constitute the knee joint. Between the femur and tibia are two large cartilage disks called the medial and lateral menisci. There is a groove at the front and lower end of the femur that is suitable for placing the patella, which can fully accommodate the patella to move up and down in the groove. The cartilage on the surface of these joints can absorb shock and withstand pressure until they malfunction. Cartilage, especially the meniscus, is the most vulnerable part of the human body during exercise and is prone to fracture. How do you know if you have knee effusion? The floating patella test determines whether joint effusion occurs when the knee is injured. There is about 5 ml of fluid in a normal knee. When the joint effusion exceeds 50 ml, the floating patella test is positive. Examination method: Straighten the knee joint of the affected leg and relax the quadriceps muscle. The examiner squeezes the suprapatellar bursa with one hand to make the joint fluid accumulate behind the patella, and lightly presses the patella with the index finger of the other hand. If there is a floating feeling, you can feel the impact of the patella and the femoral condyle. If the pressure is released, the patella floats up again, which is a positive result. This indicates fluid accumulation in the joint. If you cannot make a diagnosis yourself, it is recommended that you go to the hospital where you had the surgery for a follow-up examination and treatment. |
