What to do if ultraviolet rays burn your eyes? How to prevent and treat ultraviolet damage

The light intensity is high in summer and the ultraviolet rays are strong, which can easily cause harm to the human body, especially the eyes. Ultraviolet rays can damage human eye tissues (conjunctiva, cornea, lens, retina), so they can cause diseases such as solar keratitis, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration. So how should we prevent and control UV damage in summer?

1: Ultraviolet damage to the eyes

1: Membrane tissue: Solar keratitis is the most common acute damage caused by ultraviolet rays. This damage to the outer layer of the cornea will cause severe pain, corneal opacity and decreased vision.

2: Lens tissue: The occurrence of cataracts, especially cortical cataracts, is related to exposure to ultraviolet rays.

3: The damage caused by ultraviolet rays to the fundus is mainly age-related macular degeneration.

2. UV protection

1: Lenses are one of the most common methods of UV protection.

2: 1. Try to wear sunglasses when you are outdoors. 2. People who wear frame glasses should try to choose UV-proof lenses for their myopia glasses.

3: 3. People who wear contact lenses can choose UV-proof contact lenses or wear sunglasses over ordinary contact lenses to protect against UV rays. 4. People who undergo myopia surgery should wear sunglasses for a short period of time after surgery. 5. When engaging in special work such as welding, you should choose glasses or lenses with UV filtering function to ensure eye health.

3: Don’t assume that the sun is shining on a cloudy day

The sun is strong and the weather is not hot, so people let their guard down and unknowingly expose themselves to more harmful ultraviolet rays. Therefore, it is recommended to wear glasses when going out.
