Therefore, people who consume high-salt or spicy foods for a long time may not be able to effectively excrete toxins from their body. Long-term accumulation of toxins will naturally cause ugly edema. Drinking too much water before going to bed, sleeping in an improper posture, or using a pillow that is too low will cause body fluids to accumulate in the eyes while you sleep, which will cause swollen eyes due to the backflow of water in the body. Acute and chronic nephritis of internal medicine diseases can cause eye swelling. If your heart and kidney functions are not good, it is recommended that you go to the hospital for a routine urine test to check your kidney function. In addition, the enlarged uterus during pregnancy causes compression and obstruction of lymphatic return, which is also a cause of lower limb edema. In addition to lower limb edema, some pregnant women also have facial edema accompanied by hypertension and proteinuria, which is also called "pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome." After delivery, urine volume increased, edema subsided, blood pressure returned to normal, and proteinuria disappeared. Pregnant women with edema should rest in bed more often, especially lying on their side or prone, which can improve blood supply to the kidneys and placenta, reduce renin secretion, and relieve edema. In addition, salt intake should be limited appropriately. Many middle-aged women suffer from high temperature edema , which is prone to edema on the dorsum of the feet and ankles in summer. This is because in a high temperature environment, the skin blood vessels expand, causing local capillary congestion, increased blood vessel wall permeability, and increased water entering the surrounding tissues, thus causing edema. This edema does not affect your health and does not require treatment.

Edema due to blood reflux disorder is more common in obese women. It does not involve impaired heart system or heart function. It is simply because the veins in the lower limbs are surrounded by soft fat, which lacks mechanical pressure on the venous walls. After standing or sitting for a long time, due to gravity, it is difficult for blood from the lower limbs to return to the heart, causing tissue fluid to stay in the subcutaneous tissue and causing edema. Walking more often and exercising your leg muscles can promote blood circulation in the lower limbs. When you have edema, soak your feet in hot water and lift your feet up. This will help the blood in the veins in the lower feet flow back to the heart, and the edema will quickly subside. There are many reasons for fluid imbalance that cause water metabolism disorders. If in addition to swollen eyelids, you also feel weakness in the lower body and dry mouth, it may be that your kidneys are playing tricks. Healthy kidneys can excrete excess water from the body smoothly. When there is insufficient water, they will slow down the metabolic rate and store water in the body, causing mild edema. Women with this idiopathic condition will experience obvious edema after standing for a long time or being tired, decreased urine volume, and significant weight gain. The weight may increase by about 1.5 kg from early morning to evening. After resting in bed, the urine volume will increase significantly, the weight will decrease, and the edema will be reduced or disappear. This is related to insufficient sympathetic nerve excitation when standing upright, which causes the blood vessels in the lower limbs to dilate, reducing the blood returning to the heart, leading to excessive secretion of renin and aldosterone and retention of water and sodium. This type of person often has peripheral circulatory disorders, thickening, hardening and cold skin on the lower limbs, and sometimes purpura. Due to vasomotor disorders, the extremities become red and moist, and frostbite appears before winter arrives. It is easy to develop orthostatic hypotension and faint after standing for a long time. To prevent "idiopathic edema", you should not stand for too long. It is best to take a short nap every day. Lying down for a while can help with diuresis and reduce swelling.
