What are the taboo areas for scraping?

Gua Sha is a special treatment method in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is particularly effective in treating some diseases and is also good for human health. However, not everyone is suitable for Gua Sha, and not all parts of the body can be scraped. Gua Sha should not be performed casually as it may damage human health. So, what are the taboo parts for Gua Sha? What should we pay attention to? Let's take a look below.

Simple scraping technique

1. The patient should take a comfortable position, fully expose the treatment area, and wash the area with warm water.

2. Use a smooth-edged spoon (or spoon, copper coin, etc.) dipped in sesame oil (canola oil, peanut oil, soybean oil or water) and scrape the area that needs scraping repeatedly in one direction.

3. The order of scraping is generally from top to bottom, or from the middle of the body to both sides, or from inside to outside each time. Do not scrape back and forth. Scrape each area about 20 times each time until dark red spots appear on the skin.

4. The scraping area is usually only on the patient's back or both sides of the neck. Depending on the condition of the disease, scraping can sometimes be performed on both sides of the larynx in front of the neck, the chest, both sides of the spine, both sides of the arms, or the inner side of the knees. You can also choose the appropriate part for scraping according to the condition of the disease.

The following situations are not suitable for scraping:

1. People who are too hungry, too tired or drunk should not be subjected to gravity or large-area scraping, otherwise they will suffer from collapse.

2. Scraping is prohibited on the eyes, lips, tongue, ear holes, nostrils, nipples, navels and other parts, because scraping will cause congestion in these mucous membranes and will not heal.

3. Gua Sha therapy is prohibited for patients with mental illness because it may stimulate the onset of illness in such patients.

4. People who are infected with contact skin diseases should avoid using scraping, as it may transmit the disease to others.

7. Scraping is prohibited on the painful areas of acute sprains, trauma or fractures, as it will aggravate the bleeding of the wound.

8. Gua Sha is prohibited on the abdomen and lumbar sacral area of pregnant women, otherwise it will cause miscarriage.

The above article introduces in detail the precautions and taboo parts of scraping. You should have some understanding now. If you don’t understand the acupoints, it is best not to scrape casually. It is recommended to go to a regular, professional person for scraping to avoid causing unnecessary harm to the body. Scraping should not be too frequent.
