There are many causes of anorexia, which can be divided into the following three categories:

1. Neurological and psychiatric factors

Depression is often accompanied by loss of appetite. Emotional confusion, boredom, unpleasant situations, vision, smell, and taste can all affect appetite. Neuropsychiatric factors are very common factors affecting appetite.

2. Digestive system diseases

A history of digestive system disease is the most common cause of loss of appetite. These include many diseases, which are briefly described as follows: Stomach diseases: gastric cancer, acute gastritis, chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, pyloric obstruction, etc. Intestinal diseases: Almost any intestinal disease can cause loss of appetite, the most common ones are intestinal obstruction, intestinal tuberculosis, etc. Liver diseases: Common ones include chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, etc. Biliary tract diseases: Common ones include acute cholecystitis, chronic cholecystitis, bile duct cancer, gallbladder cancer, etc. Pancreatic diseases: Common ones include acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, etc.

3. Extra-gastrointestinal diseases

Chronic pain in any area can lead to a loss of appetite. Fever, hyponatremia, hypoxemia, acidosis, and congestion in the digestive system caused by various reasons can all lead to loss of appetite. In addition, uremia, respiratory failure and various endocrine system diseases (hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, hypopituitarism, etc.) can all lead to loss of appetite. Certain medications can also affect appetite.
