1. What is eczema?

Eczema is an allergic inflammatory skin disease characterized by diverse rashes, symmetrical distribution, and severe itching. Long-term recurrences can lead to chronic eczema, so patients should pay special attention. In order to avoid the occurrence of eczema, patients should have a certain understanding of how eczema is formed, not only to prevent the occurrence of eczema, but also to better treat eczema. In the early stage of eczema, the main symptoms are severe itching, polymorphic skin lesions, erythema, papules, papulovesicles or blisters, densely packed in patches, easy to exude, unclear edges, and scattered small papules and papulovesicles around, often accompanied by erosion and scarring. If secondary infection occurs, pustules or thick scabs may appear.

How does eczema develop?

Eczema can occur at any age, any part of the body, and any season, but it often recurs or worsens after winter. In recent years, the incidence of eczema has been on the rise, which may be related to changes in climate and environment, the use of large amounts of chemical products in life, mental stress, accelerated pace of life, and changes in dietary structure.

According to Chinese medicine, the main causes of eczema are: one is constitutional intolerance, which causes wind, dampness and heat to invade the skin; the other is due to improper diet, excessive consumption of spicy, fishy and wind-promoting foods, or alcoholism which damages the spleen and stomach, causing the spleen to lose its healthy function, internal generation of dampness and heat, and repeated exposure to wind, rheumatism and heat. The internal and external evils combine and fight against each other, invading the skin and causing it; or the body is weak, the spleen is trapped by dampness, the skin is malnourished, or dampness and heat accumulate for a long time, which consumes yin and blood, causing blood deficiency, wind dryness and malnourished skin.

There are many factors that cause eczema, which is caused by the interaction and mutual influence of internal and external factors. The causes of eczema can be divided into internal and external factors. Generally, internal factors are mainly due to the patient's own hereditary allergic constitution, or the patient has indigestion, nutritional disorders, lesion infection, endocrine disorders, neuropsychiatric factors and other factors.

The external causes of eczema are generally due to cold, sunlight, dryness, friction, scratching and other factors. Some substances, such as soap, cosmetics, pollen, fur, clothing dyes, etc. can also cause allergies.

What fruits are good for people with eczema?

It is best for patients to eat some fruits that can act as diuretics and clear away heat, and avoid eating some fruits that are dry and easily cause heat.

For example: durian, mango, longan, lychee and other fruits are hot in nature, so you should eat less or not eat them to avoid aggravating the condition. Patients can eat more fruits such as watermelon and grapes that can clear away heat and dampness, which will be of great help in controlling the disease.

In addition, in daily life, patients should eat less spicy, greasy, and allergenic foods, such as fish, shrimp, seafood, beef, mutton, etc.

Foods that are prone to allergies should also be avoided, such as: seafood, chicken, duck, beef, lamb, fatty pork, eggs, milk, corn, tomatoes, peanuts, soybeans, wheat (noodles, etc.), mangoes, etc.

You can eat more loofah soup, cucumber soup, lean pork, three-bean soup (cow's tears, red beans, mung beans), etc., and you can also supplement some vitamins.
