Omega-3 deep sea fish oil, do you really understand it?

Fish oil contains the essential omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. These unsaturated fatty acids help lower cholesterol and have good protective effects on the heart and blood vessels. So what is deep sea fish oil?

What is fish oil?

Deep sea fish oil is extracted from deep sea fish, not from fish liver, so deep sea fish oil is not cod liver oil! Don’t get them confused! Cod liver oil basically does not contain unsaturated fatty acids such as Omega-3. I believe many people have heard of the names "deep sea fish oil" and "Omega-3", but do you really know what they are? Omega-3 refers to a group of polyunsaturated fatty acids that are commonly found in certain deep sea fish and plants. Some familiar deep-sea fish contain a considerable amount of Omega-3, such as salmon, sardines and other fatty fish. Many reports from Europe and the United States have mentioned the benefits of Omega-3, such as protecting cardiovascular system, delaying Alzheimer's disease, enhancing memory and even protecting eyesight.

Editor's reminder: Deep-sea fish oil is extracted from deep-sea fish, not from fish liver, so deep-sea fish oil is not cod liver oil! Don't get them confused! Cod liver oil basically does not contain unsaturated fatty acids such as Omega-3.

So, are Omega-3s really good for your health?

A European trial involving thousands of people has shown that eating one serving (280 grams) of fatty fish (deep-sea fish) per week can indeed lower blood pressure and reduce fat accumulation in blood vessels. In addition, as an important nutrient in breast milk, Omega-3 plays a key role in the development of the baby's brain and vision. However, since the living environment of deep-sea fish such as salmon may be polluted by heavy metals (mercury), sensitive people such as pregnant women are not recommended to eat large amounts of fatty fish. In addition, due to different eating habits, fatty fish is not a common guest on the Chinese table.

Therefore, more and more people choose to take high-purity Omega-3 supplements, without having to worry about marine pollutants and getting the best ratio of unsaturated fatty acids. The global market for Omega-3 supplements reached $33 billion in 2012! However, driven by such profits, the products on the market are mixed. As a consumer, you must be careful to identify the quality of Omega-3 supplements.
