Will lumbar vertebrae fracture affect leg and foot swelling?

Will lumbar vertebrae fracture affect leg and foot swelling?

The lumbar spine is an important joint area, but the lumbar vertebrae are prone to disease, which can easily lead to lumbar bone hyperplasia and bone damage, which will have a great impact on the patient's joints and body. At the same time, problems with the lumbar spine can cause swelling, pain, and numbness in the body, and can also cause many complications.

Lumbar bone hyperplasia is a manifestation of the beginning of the lumbar vertebrae degeneration and aging process. The degree of lumbar bone hyperplasia is generally mild and most of the time it will not cause low back pain. According to statistics, only 1% of people suffer from low back pain before the age of 20, which increases to 10% between the ages of 35 and 39, and then increases by 1% every 5 years. By the age of 60 to 64, the incidence of low back pain is 15%, but after the age of 65, only 3% of people suffer from low back pain. In fact, at this age, lumbar bone hyperplasia is more obvious, but low back pain is reduced, which shows that the pain is not all caused by bone spurs.

Does severe lumbar vertebrae bone hyperplasia necessarily cause low back pain?

Not necessarily. Many athletes have obvious lumbar vertebrae hyperplasia. Not only do they not have back pain, but they can also achieve excellent results in competitions. This is because the vertebral bone hyperplasia is like growing a few claws, which increases the stability of the vertebrae and helps prevent intervertebral disc herniation.

What are the main diseases caused by lumbar vertebrae bone hyperplasia?

1. Lumbar stiffness: Lumbar bone spurs can grow on the anterior and posterior parts of the upper and lower edges of the vertebral body and the articular process joints. Lumbar bone spurs gradually increase in size under repeated stimulation, which can reduce the range of motion between the vertebrae or even cause stiffness. This can lead to a compensatory increase in the range of motion between adjacent vertebrae, aggravating the degree of degeneration of the intervertebral disc and intervertebral joints.

2. Lumbar disc degeneration, intervertebral disc stenosis, etc.: Over time, with the further influence of strain factors, the entire lumbar spine may show symptoms such as extensive disc bulging or protrusion, intervertebral disc stenosis, bone spur formation at the edge of the vertebrae, hypertrophy of the articular processes, hypertrophy of the yellow ligament, and instability between the vertebrae.

3. Lumbar nerve compression: Bone spurs at the posterior edge of the lumbar vertebral body, together with the bulging annulus fibrosus of the intervertebral disc, the posterior longitudinal ligament and the edema or fibrotic tissue caused by the traumatic reaction, form a mixture that protrudes backwards or laterally in the segmental plane of the intervertebral disc. Combined with the posterior hypertrophic yellow ligament, it can directly stimulate and compress the local lumbar nerve roots.

4. Lumbar spinal stenosis: In the lumbar spine, bone spurs on the front edge of the vertebral body generally do not cause any symptoms; bone spurs in the facet joints, hypertrophy of the yellow ligament, herniated disc, and instability between the vertebrae can lead to symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis. In severe cases, degenerative spondylolisthesis of the lumbar spine may even occur.
