Perennial woody vine. The stem is several meters long and divided into nodes. Light dark purple, unsegmented at the top, emerald green. The racemes are axillary, and the flowers are monocotyledonous; the calyx is light green, oval, about 3mm long and 1.5mm wide; there are 8 pistils; the ovary is on the platform, and the column is trifurcated. The fruit is triangular, with three wings on the top and three angles on the tip. The fruit stalk has two wings and lanceolate membranous bracts underneath. Flowering period is summer and autumn.

Usage and dosage

Oral administration: decoction, 2-3 qian; or grind into powder. External application: mash and apply or grind into powder for application.

Selection

To treat lumbago: 2 qian each of Wumaiqi, Yuerqi and Taoerqi. Research ultrafine powder together. Take with pure grain wine, one coin each time, twice a day. Treat sores and carbuncle: Take appropriate amount of fresh black wheat, crush it and apply it externally.

Treat burns: 4 liang of red wormwood, 1 liang of coptis root, 1 liang of dandelion, 5 qian of camphor, and 1 jin of sesame oil. Grind the first four ingredients into thin noodles, mix with sesame oil, and apply to the wound.
