In medical morphology, normal mature white blood cells in the human body can be divided into five categories: neutrophils, eosinophils, alkaliphils, lymphocytes and monocytes. Eosinophils are components of white blood cells and, like other granulocytes, originate from hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow. Eosinophils have the function of killing bacteria and parasites, and are also extremely important cells in the immune response and allergic reaction process. So let’s take a look at what eosinophils are! 1. Introduction Eosinophils are a type of white blood cells. White blood cells can be divided into two categories based on their morphology: granular and agranular. Granular leukocytes (granulocytes) contain special staining granules. Three types of granulocytes, namely neutrophils, eosinophils and alkaliphils, can be distinguished by staining with Wright's dye; agranular leukocytes include monocytes and lymphocytes. Eosinophils have coarse eosinophilic granules that contain peroxidase and acid phosphatase. 2. Basic morphology: The cells are round and have a diameter of 13-15μm. The cytoplasm is filled with coarse, neat, uniform, and tightly arranged brick-red or bright red eosinophilic granules with strong refractive index. The shape of the cell nucleus is similar to that of neutrophils, usually with 2-3 lobes, spectacle-shaped, and dark purple. Eosinophils are easily broken and the granules can be dispersed around the cells. 3. Reference value [Reference value]: Eosinophils account for 0.5%-5% of the total white blood cells; the absolute value is 0.05-0.50×10^9/L. 4. Eosinophils The number of eosinophils in the blood has obvious diurnal fluctuations, with a decrease in the early morning and an increase in the midnight. This cyclical change in cell number is related to the diurnal fluctuation in the amount of glucocorticoids released by the adrenal cortex. When the concentration of corticosteroids in the blood increases, the number of eosinophils decreases; when the concentration of corticosteroids decreases, the number of cells increases. Eosinophils contain large, oval eosinophilic granules in their cytoplasm. This type of white blood cell also has phagocytic function. |
